Jacob a sun conure who found me!
Many years ago, I met an elephant, I was 16. It was me and my two friends Linda and Jessica. A circus came to town, Circus Mustang, they had pitched camp at the big pond/small lake we had. Either way all the animals were out and about and this was before htey started fencing for security and such. The good ol days, so we were wondering around and I gravitated to the elephants since I've always liked them. Their care taker came over and he told us their names, and let us pet them them, and I went and picked tons of fresh long grass for the big girl Madi and hand fed her. She loved it, she wrapped her trunk around me and I spent a good couple of hours running back and forth getting more grass and feeding her. She called for me every time I got back to her and she'd wrap the trunk and open her mouth and tell me feed me.. When I left later she called for me..

That night when the circus were done, we helped them pack up (they were a stones throw from where I lived). So they gave us free tickets for the next show a town over. Our parents drove us, and we got there, saw the show and being 16 you were amazed over the animals, you didn't really think about the whole animals in captivity kinda thing you know. After the show we helped them pack again, and I was with the elephants of course.. My friend was making out with the trapeze kid patrik, and he didn't like me. He didn't speak very good english but I summed it up as he was jealous of Madi liking me. He challenged me to go in after him in the truck where the elephants were packed up in with the side door open. I said sure, as we walked in Madi and Henrietta (also RIP 2007 and old little squatted elephant lady), started swinging their heads, not happy, Patrik was loud and obnoxious pushing on them.. After we got back out (30 second later) I stopped between the girls heads, Madi and Henrietta and I was petting them both cause I didn't like how upset they were (we walked behind them, in hindsight yes I could of been killed but again I was 16) and I trusted Madi.

Either way Patrik stood outside yelling at me, saying you think you are something... Madi grabbed their water bucket at threw at him, she missed but it was a good attempt. She stated what she felt loud and clear about that kid. I stayed with her a little longer giving her fresh grass and petted her head. I got an offer to go with the circus (pervs), and I was tempted ot run away from home and live with Madi.

Since then I have googled her at least twice a year, up until recently she was with the circus, there's actually an elephant database you can utilize. EIther way I contacted a sanctuary over here, but they were full, I should have tried harder.. I googled her again today.. She was killed 2 months ago, her new keeper didn't realize she was in panic in the water thinking she was playing so he kept climbing on her and drowned her. Im sure it was an honest mistake but none the less it makes me furious...

Mdi, an Asian elephant at Land der Reptilien (Rene Renz)

The video is in the bottom, but its very sad... She's dead 7 minutes in...
I have been bawling my eyes out since I discovered it, I have dreamt of more than once to get to go and save her. It's been 17 years since I saw her and she taught me love for these amazing animals forever.

RIP Madi, and I will meet you at the Rainbow bridge, Tasha will take care of you until then.. <3 I know it sounds stupid, but I really loved her.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Poor Madi. RIP. Seeing such a majestic animal in captivity or used for entertainment like that just makes me so sad.

That is so sad!!! I am so so sorry for your heartache!!!! Poor poor Madi!!!

They thought she was playing.. They are clapping their hands and cheering... What I can't believe is how the keeper couldn't realize that she had barely been up for air during 4 minutes.. at minute 7 she's dead.. I have spent a good portion of today crying.. Some animals just touch your soul and she was one of them.. I couldn't watch after minute 7... In total I have only spent maybe 5 hours with her, but she learned me so much in those 5 hours about them that I could never have read about. They are just something else..

I couldn't even watch more than about a minute of the video. I don't like circus' after i saw first hand how cruel they are to the animals when I was in my 20's. I refuse to go to one.

Omg I'm so sorry for Madi! It seemed the trainer thought something was wrong as he's trying to pull her out of the water. But I'm mad at him for not calling for help sooner once he did realised she was in trouble. He took damn too long to react. An elephant who's staying sideways too long with most if not all the head in the water the whole time shows trouble I would imagine. I mean I don't know about elephant but I know that they're not sideways swimmers.....

I'm so sorry for you too, who got to meet her, and have a spot in your heart for her :(

I cried just reading the post... tried to view the vid but couldn't to upset
Very sad story, poor Mad..........
I do not go to circus' because of the way animals are treated.

Ravennessa, I cried reading your story and cannot bear to watch the video. I'm so sorry about Madi.

I have many friends from throughout this life waiting for me at Rainbow Bridge as well. It's not stupid at all.

OMG.....That's horrible.....That trainer was a moron....It made me very very sad watching the video. I'm so sorry for your loss of Madi.....

I am so sorry, elephants are beautiful creatures and she did not deserve this. I'm sure she remembered your kindness and love. Now she is at peace, roaming plains of soft grass with warm sunshine and other elephants. And she is free, she will never be tied up or forced to perform ever again, now she can be an elephant, not a show. Sending prayers your way ~

Rest in peace, lovely girl, and may you haunt the dreams of that awful ignorant keeper, so he never works with another elephant again.

Trumpet a greeting to Ravenessa in her dreams, so she knows you are save and whole at the Rainbow Bridge, okay?

Thank you guys... and yeah he tok way too long to react, she was already gone when he reacted.. :( such a waste of a precious life... I can't believe how he could miss it.. and I truly hope he never gets to work with another animal again.. I know accidents happens but that was a little too much..

I am sorry for your loss Ravennessa :( They are truly majestic animals and I'm sure Madi is now in a much happier place.

I remember carrying around a little baby orangutan called bubu when I was a little girl. 20 years later I visit a national park forest, and he is now an alpha male with a whole family of females and babies of his own, but completely wild and too dangerous to approach. I can understand how you feel, and would be utterly heartbroken if I heard of Bubu being mistreated in any way.

That's terrible :( I only watched the very beginning of the video were she was only in a little bit, I didn't want to watch the sad part...

I'm so sorry, it's terrible that this has happened to Madi. Just like whales and dolphins elephants should never be used for entrainment in shows.
