Hi you may know me from my previous threads but I'm here to announce exciting news.........

I BOUGHT A RINGNECK and of course am very happy with it.

It's quite tame but not completely how do I tame it...

The strange thing is that it squaks if u leave and stays quite when u come back is it seeking attention

I'm really worried that it might not bond with me :(

I hope someone can help

P.s should I leave it alone for a day as it's new to surroundings

Hi there and congratulations on your new ringneck!!:)
I am still learning all the ropes as I've only had my bird for a week, but as far as the screaming is concerned - yes they do it so that you come back. Ignore it, or he will get into the habit of screaming whenever you leave or whenever he wants you to give him attention. I only respond to words and occasionally, cute little sounds instead of screams or shrieks.
As far as bonding with you, that should happen just find as long as you're being kind, gentle, spending quality time with him, and respecting his boundaries. He will need time to warm up to you, so just respect that while he figures you out. Show him every chance you get that you'll not Make him do things he doesn't want to do, and that you are pleasant and nice. :)
Hopefully this helps and others will be able to give you better advice. Good luck!!!

Edit: just wanted to add, if he seems wary of you and doesn't want to come out right now, then yes you can leave him in there for a day or two to get used to things. The key here is to let him set the pace. If he won't come out right now, just sit nearby and talk nicely to him while you do other things, and offer some nice treats. If he is aggressive with you at all, don't put your hands deep into his cage. Respect his space while he settles in. :)

As much as i want to i cant since i dont know how too could you help???

I was having trouble posting pics recently and I was told it helps to upload pics to a photobucket account and paste from there. :) For my first post though I just put them in as attachments. I believe you can get all the options for that by replying with a full reply to the thread rather than a quick reply.

The easiest way to post pics is to upload them to Photobucket or any type of photo storage website. But you can download them to Parrotforums and then share them as well.

Hi i got an indian ringneck yesterday and he is not completely tame and i would like some tips cuz iim extremely worrried he wont bond with me so any ieeas how i can bond or tame with him i read him a few stories and poems and he gets intrested and comes close but doesnt let me touch him yet plz tips would be appreciated i really want him to perch but am willing to take the time im not putting my hand in the cage yet as he can fly his wings aren't clipped any ideas how to bond with a flighted bird i did start a previous thread about this too

Patience, patience, patience is the biggest tip I can give you. Keep doing what you are doing and before you know it he'll want to spend time with you all the time.

Also, I would see if you can get him to step up on a perch first before your hand. Many hand shy birds will be willing step up on a stick or perch rather then your hands. You can then slowly get him used to your hands. I would also suggest that you take him out of sight of his cage when you try to get him used to your hands. I find some birds don't like stepping up onto a hand from the cage but will do it away from the cage.

Good luck!
