Rico 8 months old my IRN is my first pet ive ever kept he love coming to me when i call him climbs on my shoulder and has started to fly to my room when i call him from downstairs , other than his diet where ive stated a topic on this forum i wanted to ask what more can i do for him ? ive put some toys like rope and wooden toys he dont seen interested:confused: and mirrors i was was told not to put them in a cage . another question is bathing him ive started with a spray bottle lukewarm water and he loves it :) how many times should i bath him? i know im asking a lot of question just want him to be happy

I've read a lot of different opinions on how often to bathe, so I won't speculate on that.

Play with his toys and he should start to figure them out and take interest in them.

Bobby had a mirror with a bell on it. And he hammered it like no one's business. So we took it out. And he calmed down an awful lot.

As for other things. I'd look at getting a clicker and doing some clicker training. I use this to get Bobby to do things, he wasn't very tame at all when I got him. There are some fab youtube videos about.

Also google making foraging toys. I got some coffee filter paper and I wrap little bits of goodies in for him and he loves shredding the paper to get the food out. :)

Defo keep trying it's great he's flying to you. Because Bobby lost a lot of his feathers and had to have some removed by the vet. He doesn't fly so well, but he does try. bless.

In warmer weather he's also getting sprayed once a day. But even with his spray today, he wanted a bath as well. Looked like a drowned rat.

Also bit worried about cutting his nails . Rico flys to me whether up or down stairs , steps up when i ask him shakes my hand and has started flying on my shoulder whenever he feels like it. BUT the one thing he hates is being touched , i try to stroke him but as soon as i get close hissing noise start , i move my hand above his feet he dont like it what do i do or is it a phase? as when time comes to cutting his nails he wont wanna be held

I think finding an Avian Vet is a must. I'm also looking to insure Bobby with Exotic Direct. That way any fees will be covered.

I personally wouldn't cut his nails. He's also not too tame, and doesn't like to be touched. Of course there are loads of IRN's that are hand reared which are great in videos on Youtube, but Bobby wasn't. And for the most part might take me years of training to get to be able to touch him. The most I've managed is a play with his tail. :(

However, the clicker training is working and he does want to be on me now without treats, so this is a good step forward.

Try and find a vet near you who can deal with any bird probs. Lots of vets can't because they're specialised.

We're taking Sparky the cag to have her nails done on Sat and we're travelling to Knutsford for that. About an hour in the car. Will be interesting.
