Ricco - Goffin's Cockatoo
Okay, guys! An update... WITH PICS!

Since bringing Mr. Ricco home, he's been pure joy... Other than when he has to take his icky meds... LOL.

He's taken two showers with me so far and boy do his feathers look GREAT now! He honestly just needed a good shower!

He is not loud AT ALL. Granted, he's not even been here a week yet... But seriously, he's so quiet. He's been doing his evening squawks and they're nothing. LOL. Even when I towel him and he screams, he's not bad at all.

Today I decided I changed my mind and wanted his cage in the living room... Well, unfortunately, the cage didn't fit through my bedroom door. So I had to take it apart and put it all back together in the living room by myself... And injured my foot in the process! Not sure if it's broken or not LOL. He likes his new big cage... He's explored it a few times but today I put him in there all day long and he's explored it, played with some toys, and ate and drank just fine in there. So I've switched him over to the big cage.

Since I switched him, I decided to take his old cage completely apart and clean everything in it as well as power wash it. It was... Gross... But I got everything washed and fresh. I put a few perches and one toy in there and am keeping it as his sleep cage in our bedroom. We tried to sleep with him in the living room last night and it did not go well. LOL. So he's now got his big cage in the living room and his small cage in the bedroom to sleep in.

He likes his playstand that I made for him! He's spent some time on that looking out the window and such. He's adapted very quickly and nicely here. He loves spending time with me. He likes his showers. He is coming out of his cage more and more now. Tonight was the first time we really just sat and hang out on the couch and he talked to me and allowed me to give him kisses.

The past two times I have given him his meds has gone very smoothly. I want to give a huge THANK YOU to Melissa (melissasparrots I think) for helping me with that and making the video for me. It helped a LOT. Especially the comment that if it was taking 15 minutes I was being a baby about it and needed to grow a pair and just do it. (Okay, I know you didn't say that, but I know it's true! LOL) I just decided no more bull**** and just get it over with. Now it takes all of 3 minutes and it's over and done with and we move on to something else.

All in all, so far, he's proving to be everything I wanted and more. He's a wonderful little companion. We dance together (I found out yesterday his favorite type of music is Electronica LOL), we sing together, we play together, we hang out together, we shower together, etc. It's the best.

So far, he's met me, my partner, my mom, my dad, my brother, and my grandma. So far, this is how his preferences are in order from the one he likes the most to the least:

1. Me
2. My grandma
3. My partner
4. My mom
5. My brother
6. My dad (He really dislikes my dad, but then again, everyone does... LOL)

Okay, I know you only clicked on this for the pics, so here you go!

He's a handsome boy!!!
His feathers don't look as bad as they did in the first pic you showed us before you had him.
He seems pretty content in the pictures

Thanks, guys. :) Yes, his feathers look wonderful in comparison!

I totally jinxed myself by posting this... As soon as I posted it, I went to give him his meds and he bit me! LOL. It hurt, but it's better now. He doesn't hold it against me. As soon as we're done with the meds, I give him a pine nut and lots of praise and attention and he's back to his old self. Steps up for me and lets me give him scritches. :)

I'm so glad everything worked out for you, since you put so much thought into what bird you wanted!!!

Thank you! I just hope things only get better from here :)

He looks so much better! what a cutie. I love the goffins, I wish that the little guy I had hadn't decided that he HATED me. He would fly and go for the eyes, he wanted my ex-husband and was so jealous of me I needed stitches. They really are the cutest little guys though.

He's beautiful,Jaimmor! I sure love my newest addition of a goffin bird, her personality brightens up our day!

You speak of hurting your foot, did you happen to hit your baby toe on the door jam? If so, yeah, me too,,,moving Sassy's cage into her night time room. It stuck straight out sideways!!! I had to push it back to normal position and tape it to the next toe. So gross, I know. Not sure if it broke or just dislocated. Anyways, hope you walk better soon.

Thanks, guys! :D

Mare Miller... No LOL. Actually... It's a bit of a story and goes to show I have REALLY blonde moments sometimes... I don't know if you've ever put together a big cage (relatively speaking... it's 36X28), but I didn't think it'd be that big of a deal. It was easy enough when we put it together the first time, but... The key word there is WE. Putting it together by myself was a whole different story. I couldn't get the casters off, so the two side pieces were much shorter than the front and back pieces... Long story short, I finally got the two side pieces on and then had the bright idea of leaning the three sided cage up against my couch to put the back piece on. Well, I didn't think it through because the casters were still on, so when I went to fasten the back piece on, the whole cage fell on my foot. Ouch. LOL

Sorry to hear about your foot, but putting a cage together with no help is really impressive.

He is so beautiful! I am glad your guys are happy together. Also, I think Ricco prefers women more looking at your list of people. I have 1 bird that prefers women more no matter what and my guy has a female avian vet, too. He lucked out as your buddy did!

Ricco is a very pretty Goffin Cockatoo!!! Goffins aren't that loud except the occasional scream here and there, it's really nothing compared to the bigger toos. The smaller toos are relatively quiet like my Lesser too.

I hope your foot get better soon, I know it can be a pain putting up a cage on your own. When I went to pickup the ekkies, I got them a large cage at the same time. Then drove two hours home all cramped in my car seat because I bought them a BIG cage, 7' tall cage. Then I put it all together by myself and it was NOT a easy task. But I wanted to get it done before my partner gets home cause the ekkies was a b-day present to my partner who wanted them for years since we've been together. But I got to LOVE these birds and now one of my favorite species of birds. Enjoy your time together, he looks like a sweet little angel!!!!
