I think most people have hard of a reverse 911 service.
Fire, police, and even schools use them.

after seeing this post.

Makes me think a reverse 911 for the parrot forum might be worth doing.

It could be email based or text message based for those who would be willing to have there cell number in there control panel. it would not have to be available publicly, just to moderators.

And of course it would not be mandatory anyone could opt in or opt out.

Just thought I would bring it up.

An interesting idea, Wes. Let me discuss with the other mods to see if this is possible with forum software or independent source.

Great idea

I have no idea what a rverse 911 service is, could you please explain?

When somthing urgent comes up, like the major die off at the parrot rescue in Wisconsin email or text messages could be sent out to all those who have signed up.

Not everyone is able to log on to the form every day and for things like that time is critical.

Wes, thank-you for bringing this idea to Parrot Forums.

At present, the software is not able to support an alert system.

Again, thank-you, for the idea.

Regarding an Alert System, the vast majority of 'County's' in the USA (some States use different names ). Each have a Health Department that oversees a very wide cross-section of health related subjects, including animals, and yes, that includes Parrots. This local contact is directly connected to State departments and National departments, which also connect internationally.

The strength of this system is fashioned and connected to CDC. The foundation is based around international bad actors like 'Bird Flu.'

This system works at the local level, but only if it is reported. If you recall the Dog Food that resulted in hundreds of dogs dying a few years ago. That was caught at the local level!

The reality is for any alert system to work a Local Health department has to receive the information!

Could you add a thread to the announcement sub-form that would be locked to all except moderators?

The mods. Could post urgent information and all users could subscribe to that thread.

This way only info that had been verified give emal notice and it would keep members from getting emails every time a regular user adds something ( because they cant)

Wes,

At present, if an alert was determined valid and urgent by the Mod Team, A Thread would be provided.

It is important to understand that such an event would have already triggered local and/or State alerts as part of local and State level media.
