I really need to stay out of the Craigslist pets section because every time I do, I run into ads that leave my mother wondering why I'm misting up over a tablet.

Like, "He's so beautiful..." Then my brain goes for a trip to Dreamland, and the next thing I know, I'm looking up names.

It helps that I don't have $1300 to whip out on a whim, but it doesn't take away the temptation to negotiate the price.

Ugh... Someday.

Hi, is this a little on the low side?

I think I saw this bird too. Scarlet? I have inquired and offed a last resort price. That bird would need a lot of work and has a super sketch history. :/

I have a love/hate relationship with Craigslist. I'm seriously thinking about have our IT department block it from my logon id.

The good news is most of the Craiglist bird ads are fake. So just be careful, don't send money, insist on seeing the bird, etc. Whatever you do don't send money. Ever.

Additionally, it is against Craigslist policy to sell animals of any kind. The owners can ask for a modest rehoming fee to pay for some basic expenses.

In the case of a bird, the owner is fully within their rights to sell the cage and supplies. We all know those hold real value and are totally within the terms and conditions of Craiglist.

I have a love/hate relationship with Craigslist as well. I tend to report a lot of posts, but they don't get pulled quite fast enough for my liking. I also do a "picture search" in my browser on any pictures I see of birds. My conure was a craiglist find. The previous owner had pulled stock photos of a blue crown off the internet because his bird was pretty pitiful looking. (her tail grew back with better nutrition and less smoke)

So buyer beware.... big time. I see some horrible things. A military macaw was in the barter section. The owner wanted 800 for this "former breeder" or a utility trailer in trade. The bird was in a rusted cage with no perches and wasn't tame. After talking with the "owner" for a couple months I offered $250 in cash without the cage. The bird was in bad shape in the pictures. The vet bills alone would have crossed the 1k range. Owner refused my "low ball" offer. She should have paid me to take the bird. :(:(

But the heartbreaking thing among all this cr$p is the birds that get abused, neglected, bartered etc - they are the sufferers. :(

Yeah I am hoping she takes my offer bc I would like to rehab the bird/ get proper vet care and nutrition. Then either keep her or adopt to a great person.

Yeah - I spend a lot of time on CL looking for things to trade/salvage. Obviously animals are not one of them, but I've learned how to spot a scam (when I'm seriously interested in buying something). I would never send any money anywhere. I'm currently selling a ferret/rat cage, and I've started getting some scammers trying to phish for info. (PM me if you're interested in the cage, though.)

And yeah - there are some horrible things in CL. One of my rat forum members saw someone trying to trade a corn snake for a case of PBR. Probably for the best, though, since anyone proposing that trade probably wasn't a good owner.

But that's what you get when your culture views animals as property.

I couldn't have said better myself! :(
