rescuing a grey?

Hello
I have a 4 month old female green cheek conure, she is great and so sweet. I am offered the opportunity to rescue a Congo grey. I would love to, but I don't want to make a mistake by taking him. He's 10 years old, male. His owner is now gone for most of the day, during which the bird vocalizes a lot, and the neighbours complained. The poor bird started feather plucking.If I adopt him, he will be in the same room as my GCC, in a different cage. He will also be free in the house several hours a day, while I work from home. I wouls also harness train him. I am wondering if that would be a good enough setting for him? I've never had a grey before, and am a bit intimidated.

I'm not the best one to answer about greys, hoping Birdman666 hops in here, but I do have a few years' of experience with them and love them to bits and hope to have another someday!

Most birds can be rehabilitated - especially the super intelligent ones like greys. They need love and attention. There are many helpful threads in the african grey forum that may be of help. I would quarantine the grey from the gcc and keep them from interacting directly for quite a long time. They will vocalize and know the other is there pretty quickly. The grey shouldn't be seen with you in front of your gcc for a while either.

Greys need lots of time and attention, especially in this kind of condition. But, that being said, it can be done and it may bring you many years of delight!

If you do decide to bring him home be sure to quarantine him and take him to the very asap. It's always best to make sure the plucking isn't due to health issues (plus you want to make sure he doesn't have anything that can be shared with your gcc)
