RIP Constantine: Jenday Conure
I'd like to get a second hand bird so I called the local rescue. I was told they only have three conures; a mitred, a GCC, and a pinapple GCC. I'm super excited to go and see all the different birds and I'm really hoping the little regular GCC likes me as I'm partial to them.

Also, another update on the Sun that Con fell in love with. It's dead. It died a week before it could turn a year old. The owners are going to get a necropsy to find out why but I believe that I know. Human saliva is dangerous to birds right? Well, the employee who was showing me the birds showed me the Sun's "trick". He let the Sun stick its head in his mouth and lick his tongue and teeth. Even after I told him it's dangerous, he replied with, "Oh well we do it all the time." Now that beautiful bird is dead. Good job, PetCo!

Oh my gosh, that's so sad! I'm sorry to hear. Yeah, we supposedly have the dirtiest mouths of all animals and have bacteria in our mouths that can be dangerous to our fids. What an unfortunate and unnecessary end to that bird's life.

I do hope you like one of the rescue birds. I'd probably want the Mitered, lol!

o no!! poor sun conure i hope he/she is in a better place now

didnt u say that people could take there birds in and have the owners take out the birds they are selling and have them play?????
i think one of the birds might have been sick. Then the sun probably got infected to. I would take con for a check up to be on the safe side hopefully he didnt catch anything

I would take her but the only vet avian certified is hardly worth anything. They wouldn't know what to do with her. It was over a week ago and nothing about her has changed. She's active, eating well (little pig!) and her poop is the same as usual. I will, as usual, keep a close eye on her. I don't know what I'd do if I lost my baby :(

Also, I was just told by a customer at work that I need to talk our 4 mo old Sun lol That's how it started with Con. I had customers interested in buying her until they saw her with me then they tried to get ME to buy her! Guess it worked :p

Oh no!! That's really sad. :( I was unaware that human saliva was harmful to birds! Holy crap!

I've heard of it a few times. I've also seen people that let their birds pick their teeth routinely. Maybe they can build up a resistance to the bacteria with repeated exposure. Regardless, my lips are tightly sealed whenever one of my birds is poking around my face. Especially Sidney. He has been trying real hard to push his beak inside since he came home with me. Don't want to take any chances with any of them.

Really sorry to hear about the bird that died, though. Very sad.

My BCC used to try to slip me the tongue when she kissed me, lol! I had to try not to let her do that.

Supposedly cat saliva is very dangerous to them as well. My cat chewed on the leather part of a toy I had hanging outside of Pete's cage to get him used to it. Just to be on the safe side, I cut those parts off.
