These two are my male cockatiels. I know for a fact that Renji would be happier in an aviary never to talk to a human again but I still have trouble with the idea of taking him to the shelter to join in the aviary of tiels and parakeets. I know he would love it and it would make him happy but for some reason I've been putting it off. I've been talking about finding him an aviary setting for years now and now that there is a viable option I still haven't done it.

I have also been thinking of working with Dante a bit and maybe trying to adopt him out to someone. I might for a period try to cage him with my girls but if they go into egg laying overdrive that obviously won't work. Dante likes other tiels so if Renji goes into the aviary I don't want Dante to be alone. Dante has potential to make a good pet but I just don't work with him one on one any more since we moved and he has been pals with Renji.

Soo really I guess I'm working on taking Renji to the aviary and then trying to decide what to do with Dante. Renji is the easy one but Dante is the hard one to decide on. I guess tonight maybe I'll trim his nails and then take him down to the girls to see how they react to a male invading their space.

I guess in the end it feels weird to be thinking of rehoming two of my birds when I work with a rescue and am planning on bringing a macaw home:20:

Well Dante is hanging out with girls now in their cage. Probably give it a few days to see how they do with each other before taking Renji over to the shelter aviary! Once Renji is in it I'll never be able to pick him out again with all the normals in there:rolleyes:

There's tolerating going on at least even if everyone is like I'll sit in this area don't you sit with me....

Sometimes, being a good parrot owner is finding an ideal situation for a bird in your care. If you *know* a bird could be happier elsewhere, regardless of what you may do, then it may be a good idea to look for that "better" place.

Dante seems to be doing just fine with the girls and is getting the hang of being out with everyone.

I took Renji over yesterday to the shelter....the only thing I didn't factor in to my thought process was that there are about 15 loud butt cockatoos in that room with the cockatiel flight. He was a little nervous with all the noise and activity of the bigger birds. I'm giving him a week to settle in and get used to the noise. If he can't get used to the loudness of the cockatoos I'll pull him out and take him back home. At first he was like oh looky other birds but then you could see the noise of the big guys getting to him every time they screamed.

He was about 100 times easier to pick out then I thought he would be in the flight. I was comparing him to everyone before I put him in and realized he is a very very dark grey almost black compared to everyone in the flight. I could spot him every time I checked in before leaving yesterday!

Dante is in full on flirt mode with the girls though his idea of flirting consists of sitting in the corner, facing the wall while whistling...

I haven't been able to get up to the shelter to check on Renji quite yet but I will be up Thursday hopefully he is doing well!

Lol, Dante facing the wall whistling. He's a bit shy around the ladies? Hopefully it will work out without his presence alone stimulating the girls into eggy mode. Can he be housed separately and have visits?

Best wishes for Renji :).
