Removing stains

Hey everyone.

Our caiques love to eat just one color of pellet at a time and leave brightly colored poops all about. So now we have a rainbow of carpet stains. What have you found to be the best way to remove them? We may be moving soon and I want to get as much out of the carpet as possible so we don't loose our deposit.

I've already tried poop-off, spot steamer, potty pickup, and oxiclean.

Have you tried resolve or spot shot? I don't know about the colored poop because the dyes that make the 'rainbow' colors aren't natural, but it works wonders on regular parrot poop stains. I've also found (again with regular poop, not sure about colorful poo due to dyes), allowing it to dry completely first THEN pick up the dried portion will leave a much smaller stain or no stain at all. Trying to clean it when it's wet just smears it around, grinds it in and makes an even bigger mess.

Heres a process for removing food dye from carpet, which is likely the reason for the tough stains you're dealing with to begin with: HowStuffWorks "How to Get Food Coloring Out of Carpet" I might try it on one, and if it works, before you move spend the time to treat all of them so you can get your deposit back.

Wanted to add: Parrots can be potty trained and there are a variety of effective methods. After having a potty trained bird, I put it right up there in importance with getting them to step up. There are 2 basic schools of thought on potty training- the bird poops on command OR the bird signals you when it has to poop/returns to a designated area. I personally agree with the latter, as sometimes the method of pooping on command backfires. The bird will ONLY poop on command, which results in it holding it even in its cage or stand and causes health issues. Much better to have them communicate when they have to go or learn to go to a target area when they have to go

Thanks. They are potty trained a little. But when you have the 8 that we have, it starts to be a challenge.
