I can't believe it's been 12 years since the attacks happened. It seems like yesterday. :(

I believe many of us know exactly what they were doing when we learned of the terrifying news, including myself - the day is stuck in my memory bank forever, like a bad dream that you just can't shake off.

As I was listening to the reading of the names this morning, while cleaning bird cages, I suddenly heard a familiar voice. I looked up to see my son's old football coach, Charlie (Charles) Amoroso. Coach Charlie lost his son Christopher that dreadful day. Christopher would often show up during football practices, making the kids (and parents) laugh.

This is for you, Christopher, you will NEVER be forgotten!!

This is Christopher, and for those wanting to read about him, here is the link:
From the New York Post Friday

Yes, i still dread this date as it approaches annually. It still feels fresh in my mind too, like it just happened, yet it was so many years ago, and so much has changed.

And reading that piece about Chris Amoroso.....it stated his age......i was also 29 on 9/11/01. It sounds so young now. Adds to the confusion, how new it feels but how long ago it was. RIP Chris and thank you for your sacrifice.

Hard to believe 12 years have gone by. I was watching the memorial service on Fox&Friends and was totally ticked that Obama made his speech asking for support the day before such an important date.

I was in school that day. I remember it because we had decided to have a classroom party... kids brought in food, desserts, soda, ice cream... The party was planned before that day, so it was far beyond intentional.

I also recall making a poster with an eagle on it to show our support from our school. I did most of the drawing, since I was the best drawer in the group! Had some kids write their names on it, and we included some of our hands, too. I have photos of that poster in New York, although one of the photos got chewed up by a bird!

If I remember right, I put "On Eagles Wings We Come Together" on the poster in big words. Thinking now about how that could be taken, it can be read in so many ways... The idea had actually come from an eagle statue I had seen a photo of... two eagles soaring through the air.

Wow Monica, thank you for sharing this. That just gave me goosebumps all over!!! Where were you when this happened, I mean in which state?

California, in the Sierra Valley area. (just west of the Reno/Sparks area of Nevada)

The first plane hit before school had started (well, before students had to be on the bus to get to school) and the second one hit while the students were at school. We had the news on in the classroom and were debating whether or not we should post pone the party and then the second one hit... We didn't post pone it, only because we didn't have anywhere to store the food (this school does not, or did not at the time, have it's own cafeteria with fridges and freezers - students had to walk to the elementary school to get hot lunches if they didn't bring their own food - this was later changed) and some of the food would have gone bad if we had waited. (re: icecream).

I remember I had brought "monkey bread" for the occasion...

And that's probably the clearest day I recall from when I was in school. I was in middle school, then, too.

My oldest, Michael, was in middle school when it happened. He had broken his arm the weekend prior during a football game. The morning of 9/11 I had to take him out of school to get him to his orthopedic appointment.

My husband called me from work shortly after the first plane crashed through the tower, so I had the TV on when I saw the second plane hit.

When I got Michael out of school he asked me if something happened because several of his classmates had already been taken out of class. Some of his friends lost a parent who worked at the WTC, but we didn't find out about that until many days later.

For some reason I can recount that entire day. It's almost as if it all happened in super slow motion.

Schools let out early for elementary students that day, and a guardian or parent was required to pick up their children from the bus stop. When Mark got off the bus, he had no idea what had happened yet.

I was pregnant at the time, and Dave & I were at the medical centre while I was getting an ultra sound done.....how ironic that morning felt for me.
A beautiful life was growing inside me, and here thousands were loosing their lives in such a tragic way.
