Kiko; A cockatiel.
Tangie; My beloved Sun Conure who passed away in May 2013
So, I was on Craigslist browsing through the free section when an ad caught my eye. The title said "Parrot for Sale. Any reasonably offer will be accepted." I clicked on it, and after reading the one sentence there was, I felt rather upset. By the picture, I could tell it was a Black-Capped Conure, it it seemed to be in a relatively "okay" condition. The ad explained that the conure was for sale with it's food and cage, and to text or call for more information. BUT, in the next sentence, the poster said "I just want her gone so we can get a cat."

Now, I do not know this person's circumstances, but still. You made a life-long commitment to this animal when you bought it. Events do pop up unexpectedly, so sometimes people do need to rehome their pets. For the animal's best interest, or yours.(maybe allergies or sickness). Sometimes it is not the fault of the owners or the parrot, and I could understand why rehoming would be the best option.

But you should not rehome your parrot just because you now want a cat instead. You cannot rehome a pet because you have decided it is simply "boring", or another type of animal interests you better. I understand why they would rehome her, but if they wanted a cat, they should have decided that before buying this bird. And besides, people can have cat-parrot households!

Now, I know certain circumstances can pop up, but I truly believe that they are re-homing this bird simply because they want a cat. At least, please reword it differently than that. I truly hop this bird does get a new home for her sake.

And no, I am not re homing my parrot for a cat, LOL! ;) It might have seemed that way, though!

I hate homes with revolving pet doors. I'm sad for their parrot, but also their new cat as well, because next year they may decide they like dogs better, or hedgehogs, or scorpions. Actually, it may be better for the parrot to be out of the household if it's unwanted because eventually it would be ignored when something more interesting comes along.

Tangie I did wonder what I was opening when I saw the title!
I'm with DexMom - he might actually find himself a genuine owner, fingers crossed.

Perhaps the were really great owners, and they are very knowledgeable about parrots, and the little parrot is extremely healthy and happy. But I still doubt people are when they put an ad up like that. Maybe it bothered me more because they said they "just wanted her gone" to have a cat. It pulled at my heart strings, and I would have adopted her. And although I know I could adopt her and I could take care of her, I feel content at the moment. Like everything at my house is as it should be. Adding another bird would be fine, but at the moment I am enjoying how it is now. If only any of you were near where I live! I do not doubt themselves as owners, because the may be great owners, but I think they are making horrible decision, and ultimately, have failed this little conure because she just "isn't as good as a cat,"

I so hope the little guy gets a home who deserves him:( I hate to see people get rid of one animals for another, they are cheating not only the animals but themselves as well.
