Tangie; My beloved Sun Conure who passed away in May 2013
So, I was on Craigslist browsing through the free section when an ad caught my eye. The title said "Parrot for Sale. Any reasonably offer will be accepted." I clicked on it, and after reading the one sentence there was, I felt rather upset. By the picture, I could tell it was a Black-Capped Conure, it it seemed to be in a relatively "okay" condition. The ad explained that the conure was for sale with it's food and cage, and to text or call for more information. BUT, in the next sentence, the poster said "I just want her gone so we can get a cat."
Now, I do not know this person's circumstances, but still. You made a life-long commitment to this animal when you bought it. Events do pop up unexpectedly, so sometimes people do need to rehome their pets. For the animal's best interest, or yours.(maybe allergies or sickness). Sometimes it is not the fault of the owners or the parrot, and I could understand why rehoming would be the best option.
But you should not rehome your parrot just because you now want a cat instead. You cannot rehome a pet because you have decided it is simply "boring", or another type of animal interests you better. I understand why they would rehome her, but if they wanted a cat, they should have decided that before buying this bird. And besides, people can have cat-parrot households!
Now, I know certain circumstances can pop up, but I truly believe that they are re-homing this bird simply because they want a cat. At least, please reword it differently than that. I truly hop this bird does get a new home for her sake.
And no, I am not re homing my parrot for a cat, LOL! It might have seemed that way, though!
