Parrots
Nessie, 26year old scarlet macaw, and
Lula, green-cheeked amazon (a foundling); 6 parakeets
Hi, everyone! I live in California, have one female scarlet macaw (Nessie), one amazon, and six parakeets. About four weeks ago, our two parakeets became a family of six. Our Nessie lives in a very big cage built for two big parrots, in another room. There is a divider in that cage, of course. We covered one side with chicken wire and put the new parakeet family in there, and they seem quite happy. Nessie has always come out of her cage in the morning and evening to socialize with us, in another room. Now, when we take her out, she runs back to her cage and seems to want to be with the parakeets. Since she laid an egg about two months ago, could it be that she just wants to be a mama? I would love to know whether she likes the parakeets so close to her all the time, since they are so lively. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
