I'm buying a CAG today and planned to set the cage up in my "animal room" which already has crested geckos, bearded dragons, mice and rats set up in there. My bearded dragon has to have a night bulb on to keep there enclosure warm during the night, I was just wondering if anyone knew if the red light would effect the CAG from getting any sleep? My "animal room" is set just off from bedroom and the door is always open so it's basically just one big room (just in case someone thought I was just leaving her alone in a room bye her self) thanks. It may bother her some. Once my room was very cold(kitchen remodel in winter and doors were left open), my room one night was below 40 degrees! So I went out and bought Rosie a red reptile lamp incase she was cold. It worked great during the day, but at night she was so scared of it that I was unable to use it.

Be careful keeping your African grey in your animal room, they are a species that is very prone to respiratory illnesses such as aspergillosis and upper respiratory infections. You should consider buying a high quality air purifier if nothing else to filter out some of the bad stuff.

Ok cheers, alls my animals are in either vivs or terrarium with fine mesh tops so they don't let out barely any dust, my rats are kept in a large 3 tier care but it is positioned next to a small window which is kept open (only about 1') so there is a constant cycle of air and both my rodants mice/rats are cleaned out twice weekly. Only problem is the cage would have to be set up directly opposite my beardie about 4 feet away. If the light does become an issue is it ok to put a blanket over the GAC,s cage just of a night?

It's a good idea to use a blanket at night time anyway. Some birds are prone to night terrors if they see movement in the darkness, or a funny sound.

Using a blanket over the cage also helps you to establish a regular, healthy sleeping pattern as many birds will come to recognise that it's time to sleep when the blanket comes out.

Just be sure to get up and remove the blanket as close to sunrise as possible - It's also good for your bird-baby to be able to see the sun rising and setting.

Would love to see pictures of your set-up, that's quite an impressive collection!

Being housed in a room with predators like rodents might also make a CAG very nervous. Greys tend to be sensitive parrots and to be in close proximity to the mice and rats might really upset him.

The grey would honestly be better in the main room where the 'flock' resides.

They aren't like lizards and rodents in that they WANT to interact with their flock which in the absence of other birds would be you and your family.

So... putting the bird in the bird room or rather the main cage in the 'animal room' wouldn't be the best thing for your bird. A sleep cage in there wouldn't likely be amiss but other wise... I'd say the living room is the better bet.
