Kato, my Quaker is about 15. He's recently developed red spots on the bottom of his feet. His dowels are different sizes, and he's got a soft blanket
on the top of his cage so he doesn't have to send on the little bars.

Would it help to use Coconut Oil on his feet or would he just eat it off? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Please dump the dowels ASAP! Replace with 'Bird Safe' cleaned, dried, and de-barked branches. Vary the size, but due to the pad damage, exampled by the redness, look toward larger than normal diameters. Also lots of variation with in each branch (perch).

Coconut Oil will do very little, if anything more than possibly make you feel better.

Not sure what your Avian Vet visit schedule is, but as recommended above a visit would be advised. Since Red Feet can mean anything for light pink areas to blown-open pads, a Vet visit is in order much sooner than later.

Thank you. His feet are aren't infected at all. Just slightly red. I've been to the vet and he suggested different sized perches.

Thanks.

Debbie

Do you have an avian vet? I'm so paranoid that I'd go straight to the vet, if possible...

Could be nothing... could be serious...
Here's an article on parrots' feet.

Are the 'bird safe" branches something that you buy?

Thanks,

Bird Safe Branches: Yes, they are available at stores and from the internet. Also, depending where you live and the type of trees near you, its very possible you may have them in your own backyard.
