Are they much rarer than regular Sun Conures and twice as expensive? It seems that way, judging by Ebay Classifieds. I only found a few for sale in the whole country and none in my area. I love how they look because they remind me of fireworks packaging, with all the bright, bold colors. Have you ever heard of them being available in Southern California?

I live in southern Cali and found some a while back. They were priced at 250 so I think maybe they arent as rare? here is a link I found to one thats older already and seems darker than usual. not sure if you can call it a red factor though. 4 year old Sun Conure | San Luis Obispo | eBay Classifieds (Kijiji) | 9854706

Oh and this is Linius's and Xander's brother just in case you're interested ^-^ http://inlandempire.ebayclassifieds...nure-hand-raised/?ad=10520595&msg=OUT_OF_AREA They're really great birds and this guys has had over 15 years of experience. Almost as long as I've been alive! lol. I've interacted with this baby and its super sweet, so is his brother which I have :p When they were together and saw humans they used to push and shove to be the first one on the hand! lol.

yeah they have them at petsmart for $600.....they may be cheaper other places but as for inland empire that seems to be all unless you go directly to a breeder. I just bought a GCC from petsmart, possibly not my best move but she is a great bird! I hope you find what you're looking for :)

Omg TommyBoyy I just saw someone buy a GCC from petsmart. Yesterday I think lol. Was that you?!?! haha jk probably wasnt ^.^

I don't think that they're rarer just not a common mutation yet. I've seen many red factor sun conure breeders offer babies at $500 which seems fAir to me. One really good breeder I know has some eggs in the nest the last time I checked.:D

Well Sun Conures at my local petco in SoCal are 595.00 and the 2 Red Factors they have they are selling for 300.00, so no they probably are not that rare, and obviously not more expensive. But after watching videos of where petsmart and petco acquire their pets, and how the distributor SunPets treats the animals, I will never buy another live animal from either of them.

I think it really depends on the employees because at my local Petsmart they're are really good with their animals. Especially birds. The nanday when they first got him was afraid and would bite. Now it comes up to people to petted.

I also think location can sway the price a bit.

Those are not red factor suns. My sun is (blood wise) a red factor or refered as a red factor but is not to me. But does have the markings.
Red baring on the back as well all reddish orange head as a baby
There not really yellow AT ALL. Lol
Even as a baby there green and red and that's to be the most profound ways of detection. HAS to have a reddish orange head as a baby. And HAS to have the red baring on the back of wings.
I know a lil bit on sun conure mutation. Well on mutations period. I was tought by some one who knows ALOT about any mutation. Most experts will consider Bella a tangerine. But I like sunset sun. Rather than tangerine. Theres many mutations of sun. RF SUN, DF RF SUN, LUTINO SUN, CINN SUN, TOUQUIOSE SUN AND PIED.
the torqoise is amazing. I have the pic and there only one in existice lol. Some last time said they had seen it before lol. But yea. Red factors are either very orange or red.
Also there a bit larger and louder. Also seem more nippy. From experience.
Some cost lots some cost the same. It varys on breeder.

Oh dont get me wrong, the employees at the petco and petsmart are great, it is the distributor that is not, and the fact that the 2 pet chains know how the animals are treated, and they still buy from that distributor is my main factoring decision. but thats off topic lol.

Well down here it's the workers. I can't stand there uneducated employees in the avian field Telling me that conures are not parakeets and nether are Indian ring necks.
Parakeets are the little guys you see in the front. looking at me as if I was he dumbest person in the world. Me and my mom just left. Haha
Any time I see new birds at petsmart there friendly and gorgeous. 2 weeks later there look terrible. They can't do nothing in those tiny acrylic cages. There TINY.
I hate petsmart and petco IMO Internet is awesome. Lol
But that's down here. I'm sure other places are much better.

Where in Southern Cali are you?

Wondering if my male is red factor. He is VERY red compared to my female, and most of his red back feathers are just barely tipped with yellow (almost like how a pearl Cockatiel's feathers show, just not so strong). I'll try to post pictures later.

That's a strong possibility. They mimic the pearl effect.
But usally it's orange tiled with red. But I can the other way.
I don't like calling lesser red sunnys red factors. Even if blood wise they are
The suffusions is not strong enough to really produce red pigment. But orange.
I'd love to see your pics. :D

My sweet Cleo (female):

Well.....he is in "nesting mode" and my grumpy boy would not come out for anything. LoL, at least you can see his chest. His back is SOOO beautiful, lots of red. His female (Cleo) is pretty normal.

this is the baring im refering too, they have to have this

here her body, vs my red shirt.

Yes!! That is what his back looks like, almost a pearl effect. I guess his father was just as deep red if not more so, but not all of the offspring came out so red.

Hopefully my pair will nest sometime soon. They had a couple nests last year with my breeder friend (long story, female is mine & male is my friend's) but I only saw 3 of the chicks and none were so red. And if not that's fine, they're very sweet birds when not nesting (female is sweet to me all the time though, just won't leave her box).
