You guys!

So we've been discussing getting an African Grey baby sometime end of this year or early next year. I actually found a small breeder that is about 20 minutes down the road from us and went to meet her today and ascertain if it was someone I would want to be involved with.

She was awesome! She showed me the baby CAG she currently has (already sold though... ), and how she cares for her babies. She let me meet her pet birds (she does CAG rescue too) and we sat and talked for about an hour. She put me on her waiting list so I'm super excited to see what transpires! We got Maverick from a breeder unseen and had him shipped to us, so this was an awesome experience, especially given that she said she encourages visiting them at least weekly after the baby turns 6 weeks.

Anyways... I'm so so so jealous of the person who already has the deposit down on this baby because she was GORGEOUS. She had sooooo much red factor. I didn't take pics, but she was almost like this random pic I found on Google. She had red on her back and on her little belly.

I had never seen one like this before in person, so it was a real treat!

WARNING! There are mark differences between Amazons and Greys! They have a totally different set of body languages and verbal responses. In addition, there are 'some' diet differences that you need to keep in mind.

Also, Greys have an Oil Gland, where Amazons do not! This will set a slight difference in their general bathing schedule with Amazons likely wanting or needing baths more often.

Also, having two very smart Parrots in the same home with differences will keep you busy learning two very different languages! And, staying in front of them!

It will make for a very interesting home!!! Dull moments will be very rare!

We are making sure we do our research! As with Mav, we read read and read some more. And of course watch silly videos.

I really appreciated the time that the breeder gave me in sitting down and discussing the major details, with of course the disclaimer that it's the bird in the end not the species.

I was initially concerned about the Grey and my wife's allergies. She is allergic to every furry thing, so we have gone on multiple occasions to the pet store nearby that has a Grey and a Too to make sure they don't trigger her. So far no worries!

We love our Zon, and how insanely smart he is! He knows the context of things and picks up little tricks SO easy. I'm sure between the two babies (which is where we plan to STOP) we will have our hands full.
