!! Since it's officially Halloween season... I thought now would be a good time to get into the "spirit" and tell your stories! :43: :46:

Warning.... This gets scary!!

'Unfortunately', I have several stories myself... Hopefully NO more! I'll start from longer ago to most recent.
Somewhere around 2000-2001, it was early morning and I was still in bed. I started hearing a loud rustling noise like crinkling a plastic bag only louder inside the bedroom (it was only me in there). Suddenly my bed started to shake as if there was an earthquake for a minute or so. I first thought it was an earthquake, but it became obvious after several seconds that it wasn't. Nothing else in the room was swinging or moving. I was TERRIFIED.

Several years later in a different residence... late into the night, I went to use the sink in the bathroom. The faucet had 2 handles - one for hot, one for cold. I only used ONE of the handles, and as I was using the sink, I saw the other handle turn on its own!! I RAN to bed and I don't think I was able to sleep all night!

In more recent years, I split with my ex and I had to move out of the house and into an apartment. Ugh, it was haunted.
It wasn't bad at first, but then 'little' things started happening. I won't list all the little stuff, but it seemed benign, almost friendly, if not annoying. THEN... It got a little worse. I'd be woken up in bed in the middle of the night on a regular basis by feeling "someone" touch me (my leg or foot) on the outside of the covers. THEN... It got truly terrifying! One night while I was asleep, I was awakened by "someone" giving a swift and HARD kick to my bed (the box spring part)!!! Don was here by this time, but he uses a separate bed, and there was NO way it was his leg that reached over to the foot of my bed and kicked it hard. He was snoring and fast asleep anyway! OMG, this was just too much. The next day I removed my mattress from the box spring and refused to use the box spring part anymore. I slept with the mattress on the floor. I didn't care at that point! THEN... shortly after that incident, I was awakened from my sleep by "someone" making a sort of sighing noise (hard to describe in text) very close to me right above my head!!! I was most definitely NOT dreaming!

We can't bring religion into the forum, but I will say that when it got this bad, I did pray in such a way as to temporarily rid the house of the bad spirit(s) but I'd have to do it daily or they'd return. After that, it was fine until we moved out several months later.
UGH! NO MORE!

 Can anyone top that?!!

re: REAL LIFE GHOST STORIES...

When I was a kid, we lived for a short time in this one house that always seemed to have a negative, oppressive energy. Our dog would never go in the back bedroom, where my parents slept. One day my brother and I were home after school alone (latchkey kids) sitting in the living room, watching tv...when all of a sudden we heard a loud CRASH in the kitchen. It sounded like the silverware drawer had been emptied onto the floor. So I ran in there...NOTHING was out of place. Then my brother went into my parents bedroom for some reason, I don't recall why, and he came SCREAMING in terror down the hall, crying hysterically, saying he saw a ghost! I went in there and didn't see anything. But he said it was like a green blob, floating in the air. When we told our mom later, she confessed that once she woke up, feeling something touching her feet through the blankets...and saw a green floating blob! My little brother was very traumatized by the event, and would never stay alone in the house after that. Needless to say, we didn't stay long there!

re: REAL LIFE GHOST STORIES...

Wish I had a good ghost story:(. I love horror stories, movies and even tried to go to a real live haunted house. But my wife stayed in the car and begged me, almost crying, for me to stay. So i did, my brother and a friend went in and came running back saying that they saw red eyes glowing in the dark and heard growling! I WANNA SEE TOO! I said, every one was so scared and wanted to leave. I never got to see whatever they saw. It takes alot to scare my brother, and he said he wouldn't ever go back. :(

Wow Craig, where is that place? I've been here the Whaley House, but we didn't see anything that day. Haunted Folklore
But trust me, you don't want anything happening where you live

re: REAL LIFE GHOST STORIES...

Hmm...I live near a water supply, maybe a mile down and it's been said that the Night Marchers (Hawaiian Ghost Warriors) walk frequently down there. So at my grandma's house I'd constantly hear soft foot steps then nothing at all. I might have been imagining it but I think I saw shadows before, and heard people calling from outside the house.
The scariest thing I've experienced would probably have been locking the door's and having them start to slowly open.

At my home-home, I swear this happened, it was 11 pm and I was watching Inside Edition in my room and I was debating if I should use the bathroom, I sat up and looked to the doorway to go and saw this silhouette of a person skip/prance for 3 seconds outside in the hallway. No one else was in the hallway or even remotely close and I covered myself with 3 blankets to make sure I was safe for the next week.

Also, I volunteer at the zoo and there are stories of the old barn house (a real barn house that was some how transferred there) being haunted. There's a story of a man who used to work night shifts and heard odd noises from inside and he turned on his flashlight to see a man standing there with all these eyes glaring at him. Needless to say, he stopped working the night shifts. It's a story every volunteer knows so we never go in there alone haha! They're saying the new educational is haunted as well, and I REALLY believe it. I've either been in there alone or with someone else to have the sensor lights turn on by themselves or hear the toilet start flushing. Luckily, I'm not crazy because there's countless stories of that happening to other people.

Mine aren't that scary but it has kept me up for hours *shivers*, the really scary ones are from my friends.

re: REAL LIFE GHOST STORIES...

Ok guys. This is hard for me to write. It was so scary that even as i am writing this i am tearing up with anxiety and fright. Can't even see what i'm writing now.

I have led a life that to this point has been very lacking in the paranormal.

It was just under a year ago. Back when i smoked regularly, I was outside on the front porch smoking a cigarette. I live on the end of my street, second house from the corner of a T section. It was around 1am and it was warm outside, i was really enjoying the night. I'm one of those types who gets lost in the stars, staring at them and the moon. Space is very interesting to me.
Enjoying the warm breeze, and the sweet musk of nature, I was sitting there with all the lights off, staring at Orions belt wondering how far apart each star was in relation to the next. Out of the corner of my eye i saw movement. Thinking it was just a feral cat, as we have so many of them, i calmly glanced to my left to check it out. I searched for a moment and right when i was about to dismiss it, i saw it.

There standing next to one of my neighbors houses was what i now refer to as "the Mooseman"

It took a moment for me to grasp what my brain was in denial of. Standing approx. 7ft tall was this giant grey man beast. He had thick leathery-grey skin, wrinkled and hideous. His face was abnormally large even for his size. Oval shaped like an upside down egg. His arms hung out in front of him like a caveman. He was walking away from me at an angle.

Heart pounding and adrenaline kicking in, it only took 10 seconds of staring at him for me to decide that this was not something i would like to notice me.

As i grabbed my phone and began to walk inside, i turned back around to take one more look and he was gone (Blocked by the corner house across the street, based on the direction it was walking) Boy did i have the heebie jeebies

I decided it was definitely time to go inside.

Here is a funny part, in retrospect.

I live with my parents they are disabled.
Just as i am about to grab the outside glass door handle, SQUEAKBANG goes the door.

I DROPPED to my knees with fright. I literally lost control of my knees and they collapsed, while i let out a scream like a twelve year old girl. Not even exaggerating, i sounded like a little girl.

It was just my mom opening the inside door, causing a vacuum, pulling the outside glass door inwards. it wasn't shut all the way.

The next day when i collected myself i spoke to my father
"Dad have you ever seen anything outside at night before?"
"Seen what exactly?" he inquired.
"Last night i saw either an alien or a demon, and i'm not keen on seeing it again"
"Ahh." My dad replied

He described to me what i had seen in perfect detail. When i asked him why he never said anything about it before, he told me he didn't know if it was real, or if his mind was playing tricks on him.
"Besides" he smirked. "Would you have believed me?"

I have not seen it since, but my dad has described some strange black orb that he sees sometimes at night.

We are pretty certain the neighbors around the location are involved in the occult due to
various reasons.

7ft description based on the size of the creature in relation to the height of the garage roof it was standing under, which is the same height as my garage

this is a true story, if i made it up, i would state it down here

Wow Timothy, that gave me shivers. Sounds like something from a movie! Hmm, sounds like the neighbors are up to something . I wonder if it will appear on Halloween with everyone in costume? I'd think about moving... :52:

re: REAL LIFE GHOST STORIES...

On my first encounter with a ghost was out in the country side of Freeman, SD. I was living in the middle of nowhere and no neighbors. There was this ghost that lived there with us, his name was Larry. He told us his name. He hated my roommate with a passion and picks at him. He liked me a lot and he would let my birds out of their cage to play and I had to tell him to not do that. He gets upset if anyone comes to visit me as he was afraid I was going to leave. As I had my ex over at that time, Larry pushed the Christmas tree towards us. My roommate was super spooked by him as one day while we were eating dinner. I looked over at the Conures cage and my german shepherd looked over and walked over, then backed off, the conures fled into their house and Pooh the shepherd started barking at the shadows as my roommate looked over at the same time and there Larry was scaring the birds, I'm not a fan of conures and Larry knew that. My roommate about freaked out. Once I moved I never see Larry around again.

When I was 21 living in Otho, IA. I would get invited to parties, a friend of mine whose a museum director would hold parties at his old house owned by the museum in Fort Dodge. We were out of wine and I asked my friend if he wants me to get some more, he said sure it's down in the basement. I walked down into the basement to fetch the wine by myself. I felt someone was watching me so I looked over at the brick wall that was partially knocked out as I felt a evil presence of someone wicked had died there and he was looking at me. So I ran up the stairs and asked my friend did someone evil had died there as I told him the specific location, he said yes how did you know. I told him I just knew as he was watching me. The other people over heard our conversation and wanting to see. So I took them down to show them, we all huddled together as we all got chilled then we all ran up the stairs....lol

The very last time I saw a ghost was a little boy about 10 years ago. I moved in with my partner and I kept seeing someone, he messed with me and shut the toilet lid in front of me while I was trying to use the bathroom. I told him to knock it off or I'll make you go away. He never bothered me since, I didn't want my partner to think I'm a freak but I asked anyways, I said honey is there a ghost in this house. My partner said yea....did you see him a little boy, I said yes.....He's upstairs half the time and after our incident he never bother me again and lived together peacefully. We see him run around upstairs. Never did ask why he was there.....

Almost forgot, when I was about 23 when my father passed away. He was over seas but I knew when he passed as he came to visit me then my grandmother. She knew as well, we both got up to answer the phone as it rang as we both knew it was about my father. My grandmother got to the phone first talking to my mom and she told my mom she knew as he came to visit.

re: REAL LIFE GHOST STORIES...

Also, while living in this same place where I had the bed kicked, before it got that bad, once I was sitting down and I was hit on the back of the head with a small stuffed toy thrown at me. No one was in the room to throw anything from that direction.

Don and I hugged each other standing up, and his TWO hands were clearly on my back. I then felt a THIRD hand... lower...... Don did not move his hands, and I clearly know what I felt. It was definitely a third hand... from "someone" else. Don was like "WHAAAT?!!"

I also heard the coffee maker skid across the counter in the kitchen.

Out of all these experiences, I've never visually seen anything. Only feeling and hearing which is bad enough!

re: REAL LIFE GHOST STORIES...

This is not my story, but that of a friend who told it to me years ago.

He (Mark) had been transferred to teach at a country school. There was no accommodation available in the town, except at the old Convent, where a wing was set aside for the younger, single teachers from the school. As Mark was unpacking his belongings in his room, an elderly nun appeared in his doorway and asked him if he were the new teacher. He said 'Yes' and told her his name. She introduced herself as Sister John Vianney and asked if he would mind checking the electrical fuse box on his way down to dinner. Mark agreed and watched the old nun walk slowly, arthritically away.

Having unpacked his things, Mark made his way along the verandah toward the refectory door. He paused at the fuse box and looked in. Wires were sparking and he was just in time to rip the fuses out before a fire began! Of course, when the electricity went out and all the fans died, everyone came out of the refectory to find out what was happening. Mark explained about Sister Vianney's warning and everyone looked at him funny.

Sister Vianney had been buried the previous month, having been principal at the school and abbess at the Convent for forty years!

re: REAL LIFE GHOST STORIES...

Another one, also not my own. This one was told to me by the nun who took the choir at our school.

Sister Joachim had been at an eisteddfodd (singing competition) with her Third Form choir. Getting home late, she had missed the afternoon prayers and was risking being late for dinner with her sisters. She hurried to unpack, freshen up and quickly grab her prayer book. She turned to quickly pop into the next room and see how her dear friend, Sister Cecilia was feeling. Sister Cecilia had been sick with a cold for some while and Joachim hadn't seen her in two weeks. Knocking, Joachim quietly entered Cecilia's room and whispered 'Are you awake?'

'Oh yes!' replied Clare, 'I've been waiting for you! How did the eisteddfodd go?'

Joachim spent a quick two minutes in a brief description and then told Cecilia 'I have to run down to dinner now. I'll catch up with you later.'

'Joachim!' said Cecilia, 'You will pray for me, won't you?'

Joachim nodded and ran to the refectory.

On her arrival, she found the nuns all in mourning for poor Sister Cecilia who had died of pneumonia that morning and whose body was laid out in the chapel awaiting her funeral the next day.

re: REAL LIFE GHOST STORIES...

I have many, many Ghost stories. I always am made fun of from my own family. They never believe me and they think it's foolish. Except for my dad, because he has quite a few Ghost stories of his own. Mine started when I was around 6. I won't talk about them, though, because it might have just been my imagination.

Sometimes at night, ever since since I was 11, it sometimes feel like someone is climbing my bed, and making it's way towards my head. When it does{I am always beyond terrified at that point}, it stops and sags, like something had just laid down. Now, I have changed beds rather frequently, so it isn't just because the bed is old.

We have a very old barn at our place, and I refuse to step in it without someone there with me. Even during the day. We nick-name the happenings 'George'. 'George' has thrown several wrenches at me from the place it's hooked up on the wall. They have never hit me, but rather whiz past my head, or skid to my feet.

One time I was with my dad in the barn, with the garage doors wide open, and I heard a bunch of heavy footsteps. I was really annoyed, because I thought it was someone from my family trying to sneak up and scare me. So I hollered and said "Don't even think about it, Hope!" Hope is my younger sister. And when I stepped outside, no one was there...and then I realized....none of my family was at home. Even the car was gone. This happened a number of years ago.

Last summer we were all having a barbecue. You have to pass the barn to reach the fire pit. The garage doors were opened, and I wasn't sure where everyone was. I hollered "Dad", and I saw someone pass by a room further back. I could hear heavy footsteps from boots{my dad has those kind}, so I thought that maybe he was just getting something and couldn't hear me. I made my way down to the fire pit and saw that my dad was down there! It terrified me, and I didn't even want to pass the Garage again. My animals hate the Garage, and will freak out if we go up there. Especially the birds, which confuses me because it isn't that bad. They've been in way darker and and mustier places than the barn, and they were fine with it.

We have found human-like bones in our garden, as well has chiseled rocks that look like arrow-heads. There is a girl missing around our place, so we brought a human-like bone from our garden to the police department. Since we didn't break it this time, it turned out we were wrong, and it was a stick. Lol.

Occasionally I will go downstairs and get a drink during the night, and when I come back up my light has been turned on.

And we have a 'mouse' problem apparantly, because we hear claw-like marks in my wall. But the thing is....Ibang on the wall to scare them, and they bang back...even louder. Last time I knew, mice didn't answer your bangs with bangs of their own. o3o

And another time, I heard a growl in my room, and it scared me so bad that I sprinted out of my room and ran right into my door frame. Everything went white, and I actually saw 'stars'.

re: REAL LIFE GHOST STORIES...

I've got quite a few stories as well, but will stick to this one (for now):

We were living in Germany (Sprendlingen) from 1995-1998, and my husband was deployed to Bosnia. We lived in an old farm house, right in the middle of the vineyards. BEAUTIFUL scenery, quite serene and peaceful.

One night I woke up, having to 'wee-wee', so I got up and went to the bathroom. Now this bathroom was super tiny. Just picture 3 walls and a door, toilet and a super tiny sink. The room couldn't have been bigger than 9 square feet. I didn't turn on any lights because the entire hallway was made of glass blocks, allowing plenty of moonlight to shine in - and I didn't bother closing the bathroom door, my kids were sound asleep upstairs, on the third floor.

Just as I was done, "Shadowman" walked by the bathroom. I don't know how else to describe him BUT call him Shadowman. Picture a shadow on the wall, only in 3D, and right in front of you. "He" appeared to be coming from the kitchen, walking past the bathroom, towards our guest room.

I swear, I'm not a screamer, but I hollered like a Banshee! There I sat on the toilet, shaking like a leaf, too afraid to move a muscle. I called for my dogs - neither one of them would come. I sat on that toilet (pants down) until dawn. :54:

Yes, I know this must all sound really funny now - but THAT is one night I will NEVER forget.

It was an old farmhouse. Abandoned, new enough to have electricity. Rumor has it the owner beat his wife and kids, thought everyone else was out to get him. Dug holes in his backyard for his dogs to live in. Fed his dogs just blood and gunpowder. Says its supposed to make the dogs killers. I may have to look up my old friend and find out how to get back there. It's in the middle of nowhere.

These stories are giving me the chills!!

Every one of them are GREAT! I love it!!! Keep em coming.

Craig, personally I wouldn't go anywhere like that unless it was a legit tourist attraction. Sounds dangerous! If we don't hear from you again, I'll just assume what happened.... :11:

re: REAL LIFE GHOST STORIES...

I really don't believe in ghosts (though these stories are awesome), but I think I'm the only one in my family who doesn't :) So I guess I'll share a few family stories. I'm afraid they aren't very scary, though.

When my grandparents decided they couldn't take care of their big house anymore they moved into a semi-assisted living type place and from the day they moved in the stereo kept turning on by itself. My grandma was really freaked out and convinced it was a ghost, so my sister (who was eleven at the time) wrote a note asking the ghost to please stop because it was scaring my grandma, and stuck it to the stereo, and my grandma says the stereo never turned on by itself after that.

My grandfather was an obsessive beanie baby collector (the kind who'd pay $1000 for one he thought was a rare collectible) and he died shortly before my daughter (his first grandchild) was born. The day after she was born my grandmother was in CVS and a June beanie baby (daughter's birth month) fell on the floor at her feet. She bought it, figuring my grandpa must have thrown it at her demanding she buy it for Anya. We joke that he didn't throw it at my mom because she would have been too cheap to buy it, even if a ghost did throw it to her.

My mom is probably just about one of the biggest believers in ghosts ever, and when my other grandfather was in his last days she privately asked him, if it were possible, if he would please try to give her a sign after he passed. When he did pass away, the very next song to come on the radio was the one that he used to sing to her, which she took as her sign.

Edit: The best I have personally is that every time my husband is away for a night and I'm home alone, the suction cups on the master bathroom shower organizer fail and it comes crashing down in the middle of the night and scares the bejeezus out of me :p But that's just my crappy luck.

re: REAL LIFE GHOST STORIES...

This thread is fascinating reading! While I am favorably disposed to the existence of "ghosts" and other supernatural phenomena, they must be passing me by as there hasn't been a hint of experience.

Julie mentioned the Whaley House, a building that occupies a spot on Time Magazine's "top ten" haunts, and various other registers. I've walked through at least a dozen times without a hint of anything outworldly. (I deliberately avoided posting "unusual" as I really believe some baseline of the supernatural intersects our physical world) I've tried to induce out-of-body experiences, attempted to levitate a metal cone with a psychic to no avail. Guess I must be rigidly earthbound!!

I have, however, had a few readings with reputable psychics that were spot-on.

re: REAL LIFE GHOST STORIES...

My Dad had a childhood on the edge of a large city up here. It was a farmhouse of sorts, and apparently was used as a jail or something, because one day he was looking for his cat and crawled under the house and found the area with a bunch of weird, 'jailey' stuff. Lol. And also, when they moved in, their attic was filled with coffins, that, as far as I know, were empty.

Well, when he was a kid, he HATED sleeping in his bed upstairs, because he thought it was possessed. Every-time he would lay down on it it would start shaking and then throw him off. His dad was always mad at him for trying to find excuses for not being up there. Well, one night, his Dad heard noises upstairs after my dad went up to his room. He opened the door, and was in time to witness the event. He immediately chopped it up and burned it. My dad also said that whenever he needed to use the bathroom at night, things would jump out of the walls and push him.

It was to the point where they needed extra help. They didn't know if it helped because they all moved out soon after. The house was eventually burned down and replaced with a storage locker place. Weirdly enough, the owner of the place was eventually tried for murder after they found....his wife in a freezer in a storage locker.

re: REAL LIFE GHOST STORIES...

My dogs say thank you to all of you guys are I'm so spooked out that they are both comfortably sleeping in my room tonight!! 😮

Did he have a hat? My son used to see shadow people when he was young, one man always had a hat and was terrifying.
