How hard is it to re-tame a 2 yr old Blue Fronted Amazon that doen't like people. My wife doesn't work so she can work with it a lot and give it tons of attention.
Thanks

Hi Huxtamillion and welcome to the forum, I don't know that anyone can really answer the question as asked, it could be simple, it could be hard, or it may never happen, not knowing the history of the birds situation and handling for the past two years makes it that much harder to even take a guess,(you stated the bird hates people, there may be a reason for this) the first thing that will have to happen is gaining the birds trust, and that only comes with time and patience, although there may be simalarities in behavior within a certain species of parrots, in this case amazons, they still have to be treated as individuals in the way they interact with us, if you look at it in the overall picture, amazons as a whole can be one of the most complex and sensitive of all species of parrots, I know this doesn't really answer your question but I hope it gives you some insight as to what to expect, I wish you the best of luck should you decide to re-home the bird :)

I agree with Bobby, there's really no simple answer to this.

I have done a good bit of work rehabilitating 'problem' animals - many of whom were facing being put down for behavioral problems [though most of this experience was *not* with birds]. With the right skills/training ANY animal can be retrained/tamed and age is never a eliminating factor. Of course it's often easiest to get them started right, but it's never too late. In fact, in some cases if the animal has been in really bad situations then you give them a good home it seem they really appreciate it more.

So if you have a bit of patience, and can learn the right ways to approach problems, there is no problem that can't be solved. But if you don't get on the right track it's also ease to make mistakes with the best of intentions that will just make problems worse.

Be sure to work with or talk to experienced bird owners and trainers and you should make good progress.

It's actually sometimes surprising how much of a change a healthy food and environment can make if they were not getting this previously - and any situation that would lead him to not like people would most likely be paired with inadequate nutrition and environments.
