Today I went to the pet shop, and I found there are more and more toys that have rawhide on it. Is rawhide safe for parrots? I've found 50/50 answers on this topic. Some says that's its fine, while others warned me it can cause health problem. What do you think about giving rawhide to a parrot?

Rawhide is fine, as long as it's tanned with vegetable oil, rather than by chemical tanning.....

Fine as long as parrots don't consume it... have heard that when it gets wet, it tends to swell up.

I make my birds' toys with rawhide that is sold as "bird safe". Do not give your fids rawhide meant for dogs, like chews, etc. Pieces of that can be bitten off, and lodge in their crops causing infections and other problems. I use rawhide lacing, or rawhide cord, tied into knots, that my birds will chew on with no problems.
