Who feeds their mutts raw food? And can you give me an example of their diet? Are there particular meats you wouldn't feed and why?

Just wanting some ideas really. I have an abundance of meat at the moment but no offal or bones so I get that kind of thing where and when I can. He also gets a working dog biscuit for extra condition (he is very active) and I have also previously fed beef, lamb and pork bones, chicken frames, ox tongue, heart, liver, kidney, sheep kidney and liver, green tripe etc

Di you have a feeding plan you stick to or just make it up as you go like myself?

I don't know much about it, but I know that the "Raw" diet for dogs is controversial. There are both people who swear by it, and people against it.

I've heard of it called the "B.A.R.F." Diet.... no kidding. That's Bones And Raw Food...

Im not a big fan of raw diets... A lot of times the raw diets miss many key nutrience factors as well as if the food isnt properly prepped and stored there are other medical risks such as diarrhea.

The most common complaint that i hear from owners who feed raw diets say that their pets develop intermittent or even chronic diarrhea. As well as other gastric upset.

I have had no issues with it and it just seems so much more natural to me. Plus it's cheap for me and I hate that majority of biscuits are packed with fillers and a billion ingredients. I'm not looking to move away from feeding raw =) but I am aware a lot of people disagree with it. The way I see it I would rather have my horse in a paddock eating grass and hay supplemented with hard feed when needed so why not similar with my dog? I realize with all animals there is the exception who does better some other way and I have no issue with people having a different opinion to me and doing things differently. We all have our pets best interests in mind =)

i dont give my dogs raw food normally, but, once in a while if when we are trimming meat, they get some scraps in addition to their normal food, we have never had any bad effects. but like i said, i have never bought the premade raw food, or given them raw food as their whole diet.

My dogs get raw food (chicken, ostrich, venison, rabbit, beef) mixed under their dry kibble. And yes, mine also get raw bones regularly. But I don't feed raw exclusively. As dogs get older, feeding a diet too rich in protein isn't always the best for their kidneys.

Both of mine are working dogs and fairly young, and they are both in excellent shape. :)

I also feed raw carrots and other vegetables, along with yams and eggs. Never had issues with diarrhea.

Ohhhh may I ask what kind of working dogs? One of my favorite topics haha. I also feed eggs and rabbit when he catches them or we shoot them. When I get to the raw pet food shop (not often) I also get possum, venison, wallaby and f fish but I won't feed possum from the farm because of the tb risk.

American Bulldog and AmBull Pit Mix. My American Bulldog is a certified therapy dog, and I do agility with my AmBull Pit Mix whenever time permits. They are both walked daily, but I prefer to take them to a wide open field where they can run their butts off (and they do). :D

Oh cool, I do agility with mine too and have done a bit of sheep work with him but am quite involved With heading dogs. I raise the odd pup and go halves with a friend.

Wendy, your dogs are stunning!

My german Shepherd also gets fresh veggies. She LOVES fresh green beans out of the garden and carrots.

Dont get me wrong. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. My boyfriends parents feed their dogs just raw meat. I feed my dogs kibble.

Working in the veterinary field I see a lot of problems with feeding a strict raw food only diet. However, I dont have a problem with feeding kibble and dry together. Each diet has its own benefits.
