I swear Shiko is seriously odd. I've also rarely encountered another ringneck long enough to determine if it's just him or his species, though, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

But seriously! Yesterday was just silly. I was sitting on the couch watching my boyfriend play some games and Shiko RAN over to me (tripping on his feet in the process, it's the most hilarious thing) and bulldozed into me. Then I spent the next hour trying to stop him from making out with me or from trying to either clean or destroy my teeth.

I should've got a video, he seriously just sat there entranced by my mouth! And surprisingly he would be quite gentle. I don't trust him around my face or ears because he enjoys nibbling too hard, but I guess sometimes I want to see if he can be a nice preener (I do NOT recommend that with any other bird - Shiko has never once broken skin on anyone).

Birds are weird  :) Anyone else ever encounter a mouth-obsessed bird?

Oh! And here's some pictures, because despite his oddity he's still so dang adorable and I haven't shared in awhile.

This was the night I got home from my two week long vacation. He flew over to me and cuddled me for hours until bed time :) forgive the grunge... it was a 14 hour drive

My boyfriend was having some fish and rice, so of course my birds had to have rice...

Giving me the stink-eye for getting too close to his food

Saving some for later!

Exploring the outdoor world!

Hey, that looks like my table at mealtime:D! Never a meal in peace lol. Shiko is so pretty even if he expresses his love in an unusual way:rolleyes: And his blue is such a beautiful shade.

I "babysit" an IRN every once in a while. He was a bad plucker in the past, and while a very happy bird now poor thing can't grow his feathers back. I never realized how big they are having only seen the one bald guy:eek: Shiko is quite large! I had no idea. Birds are kind of scrawny without all their plumage:54:

It's a food war zone when they eat with us, haha! Shiko is also notorious for grabbing food out of my mouth (like yam fries) and then just RUNNING. He's hilarious!

And Shiko is quite large for an IRN in my opinion, we've compared him to others and he's a big boy. He only weighs 120g, but the breeder even said he was one of her bigger males. He's definitely got the attitude to go with it! And feathers definitely make a difference in size... big birds don't look so fierce when they're absolutely soaks and look scrawny, that's for sure! :p

You might want to work on his toenail/talon length or he will keep getting them caught in some fabrics...

Shiko's not the only bird interested in flossing their human's teeth, many birds do/try to do this, though it should be avoided as we humans may have bacteria in our mouth that could make our feathered friend(s) sick.....

My birds enjoy rice...and...cooked fish also...just don't salt their portion.....actually, they share most things I eat.....

haha, yup, we always share. And we never give them anything that has added salt or sugar. My boyfriend suffers from Crohn's, so we don't often eat anything high in fat or salt.

And I was always wondering if it was his toenails too, but nope! He just runs too fast for his little body to carry him. We clip their nails at home and maintain them. It's almost like how I was when I was young... my mom used to experiment to see how far I could run before falling on my face. I never got far, hahaha!

Shiko is beautiful. I saw my first IRN last Saturday and was mesmerized, they are gorgeous. I'm glad he wasn't mad at you for being gone so long, Buddy was fuming at me for leaving him for four days, it took over an hour to get him to be nice to me, lol. That was this past July. Love the dinner table, dinner was clearly excellent based on the table and beak decorations, lol!

Just seeing this thread, but I just had to comment on how beautiful Shiko looks! Particularly in that outdoor pic! Wow! He just looks more and more stunning with every pic I see of him!

I also want to comment the part with teeth cleaning, shouldn't allow your birds in your mouth as there's germs you don't want to be passing onto the bird to make them sick! Very pretty baby! I recently took in a Blue Indian Ringneck, but he isn't very friendly and very jumpy. I'm working on him slowly.....

haha, no worries! They're never allowed to beak my teeth or inside my mouth, hence why I had to fight the little booger off for over an hour. Shiko and Avery will try to preen the outsides of my lips (hard to describe, I basically suck my lips in to avoid having them touch them). And I've found in general IRNs tend to be pretty jumpy and hand-shy, we really lucked out with Shiko. Congrats on your new addition! :)

my parrotlet did the something to my daughter last night. she loves to give kisses but when my daughter yawned she just about climbed in. her former owner used to feed her from her mouth, but we don't hold her while eating.
