I have decided that Chico would benefit from having the radio on during the day. Has any one have experience with this? I would like if it helped him speak.

Thanks

I leave a radio on for Jenga during the day. I think it helps make her feel less alone, and the noise might encourage speaking practice, but I haven't heard her say anything off the radio (we only get Spanish) ....most likely because its not enthusiastic and just droll.

I leave the tv on when I go out, I don't know if it helps keep her company but I notice when there's not background noise even if I am home she gets jumpy if there are noises she doesn't recognize outside. I can't see that it does any harm, although if she starts quoting episodes of Friends I might have to reconsider..

I leave the radio on sometimes. I like to think it keeps Yenko company. I'd be surprised tho if it helped him to speak because I would think the radio people speak too fast for him to repeat anything that would sound audible. My husband plays car racing videogames tho and Yenko has learned to mimic the varoooommm noises from them, so perhaps they'll pick up some sounds.

I leave the tv on for Bruno when I am at work. I do it to keep him company but also to help him get used to human sounds ect. I also hope that it will help teach him to talk/mimic.

I have no idea if leaving the tv on does any of the above. But I feel like his time alone would be awful dull without the extra sound/stimulation.

I also leave my bedroom light on for him because the natural lighting in my room is not the best.

I leave the radio on for Sweet Pea. I have it plugged into a timer, and set the timer for off times so she can have some quiet time as well.

Yes, I do think it helps them learn words and all parrots seem to love music.

My daughter was home once during a weekday and using the computer that is located in the same room as Sweet Pea. My daughter told me that as a certain song was coming on the radio, that Sweet Pea started singing to it, word for word.

I've never heard Sweet Pea sing along with the radio... so it fits with my thinking that parrots will vocalize in certain ways and at certain times, differently than you might expect. Such as you might try your hardest to teach them a certain word or phrase, and never hear them say it... yet someone else will hear them say it. LOL
