1 Sun Conure named Oscar
Oscar will be 5 months on May 23. So far he's been very quiet. He will let us know when he's irritated or happy but that's it. I'm really missing all the chirping and chattering my tiel did. I know sun conures can be very loud so maybe I should be happy about him being quiet but... Will he get "noisier" as he grows?

So far my sun is quiet. He doesn't do chatter noises. He does make noise when he wants something but that is about the only time. Honestly my tiels don't do chatter nosies either. I generally have quiet birds all around! Now my mothers birds on the other hand....

If you want some background noise you could always get a budgie or two. They generally make more chatter noises:) Though I personally find budgie noise highly annoying...

Some birds are loud and some are quiet, just like the differences found in individual human personalities. It's possible he will find his voice as he grows older and hits sexual maturity. You should consider yourself lucky you have such a quiet sun conure. They have quite a reputation.

Be thankful you have a quiet bird - my two year old Sun, Martini, is a real screamer. Between Martini and Nik Nik, my wife's Quaker Parrot, the only quiet time in the house is when the birds sleep.

I don't have a sun, but my gcc is extremely quiet - he does his loud chirp once a day for about a minute and that's it. :( I also wish he was more vocal. I'm getting a lovebird and hopefully she'll cheer him up! :)

I think suns are easy to make into screamers/loud by accident. I bought Loki home literally right after he weaned (he was still getting comfort feedings). He went through a period where he was starting to get louder but handling it right he is once again a quiet bird who occasionally makes noise. I think people unintentionally reinforce louder noises or wait for the noises to get too loud. When Loki started getting just a little louder I started training him to be quieter so he never went to that full blown make your ears bleed sun scream. I also think it can be really hard to make them quieter birds once they have gotten into the habit of being louder especially since the suns are one of the naturally louder conures. I've had him about 5 months now and maturity age is rapidly approaching, 1 - 2, so I figure I will have fun with that time and keeping him quiet and well behaved:)

When people say sun conures are loud and noisy they prob. mean when they actually wanna make noise. They don't usually just sit and chatter like budgies and tiels usually do. Mine only was obnoxious in the evenings other than that the only noise he made was when he was calling himself a good boy or asking what I was doing lol

How did you train him? Mine is a screamer and I try not to reinforce it by only reacting to her quite chirps. for example, the mornings are the worst with screaming for her breakfast so I don't go into the room she is in until she stops. but when I take her out, she will still do a few screams anyways. She screams when she sees someone enter the room, she screams when I put her away and she's not ready to be put away, and she screams when she's excited or hungry...so a lot lol I don't give her any attention when she screams and yet, she is still screaming...not sure what I'm doing wrong? We've had her for 4 months now so I would think she would have gotten it by now. And she is 9 months old. If she screams when I have her out, I set her down away from me, or a make a "shhhh" type noise by expelling air out of my mouth really fast because she hates that noise and that's how I trained her not to bite and it seemed to work well. I don't know, I just think she should be getting it by now.....

I am not sure if he will get louder as he grows, but when I was a kid I had a sun conure that was louder than the one I have now. I think it just depends on the personality of your bird.
My sun conure I have now, Hotrod, can be loud at times. When I get home from work, he screeches out of excitement to see me. Also sometimes he will screech if you leave him by himself to go to another room when he is outside his cage. Other than that, he only screeches here and there every once in a while. I would say he screeches maybeeee 10%-15% of the time? He really is good at not screeching too much, and when he does I know it is because he is trying to tell me something.
Aside from screeching, as he grows older you will probably be able to teach him some things, or either he will pick up on certain sounds that you make. For example, Hotrod can say "step up" and "I love you." He also can imitate my laugh, coughing, do a kissy sound, and a high pitched hum I do to him.
He especially likes to show off his tricks at night. I put him in his cage (which is in the living room) for the night around 8pm, and if we leave our bedroom to go into the kitchen, bathroom, etc, he will start doing all of his tricks and all the noises he can make. :p
So, overall, as your conure gets older I think he will learn more things.. but all birds have different personalities! :)

I had a sun conure, and short of the happy noises first thing in the morning, and the happy to see you noises when I came home, he was very quiet and quite well behaved.

These guys can be attention screamers, and they can be line of sight screamers. i.e. if they can't see you, but know you are around, they call to you to check and make sure you're alright. The same way they check on each other in the wild, to make sure everyone is alright, and stays more or less together as a flock when foraging.

I would say enjoy the quiet while it lasts. LOL. I have a 19 y/o cockatiel who is quite noisy, but her chirps are pleasant.

Chances are, IMO, if your sun is quiet that means all his/her needs are being met. Suns are very opinionated and have no problem expressing their displeasure with an item, person, or situation. My sun, Skittles, used to screech for hours when I first got him. While I agree that bird chirps are pleasant, Suns screeching usually isn't. I don't mind the screeches Skittles does first thing in the morning before I wake him up cause they are rather low-pitched.

Now, he only screeches if he wants a bath or is displeased with something (which I address by reassuring him that it is okay). Now, he is probably the quietest bird I've ever owned.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, LOL. Enjoy the quiet conure!

When I first got my jenday she was really quiet! She still is for the most part but as gradually started to let out happy screams here and there and cheerful chirps more and more. I would just say to give it time :)
