11 month old Senegal Parrot - 3 year old SI Eclectus
I've been thinking about adding an additional bird to my flock. I have Tiki a year old Senegal. My question is, how do you think a Senegal would react to having another bird in the house? I have read that they like to be the only bird in the roost.

I have been thinking about another Senegal, Green Cheek Conure or maybe a Congo African Grey. But I would most likely stay with the smaller of the three like the Senegal or Conure. They would be in seperate cages of course.

I'm retired and home most of the time, so spending quality time with them wouldn't be an issue. My wife says that I'm spoiling Tiki (my Senegal) rotten as it is.But since my lab passed away recently, no grand kids yet and being empty nesters, I think I'm entitled to spoil something besides my wife.:22:

Well, there's no telling how your Senegal will react to other parrots, even if it is a another Senegal. However, having 2 or a million birds doesn't matter. It's up to you if you can take care of them all, and love them. If you really want to, and if you can, get your dream bird which you said was an African Grey. JUST REMEMBER TO QURANTINE!!!!! They may like each other, or not. But you can still keep them at the same time. Hope that helps.

Hey, I spoil my birds rotton, and I have more things to worry about than you do ;) lol

i have 5 hands on birds, some get on, some tolerate each other and some hate each other. you kinda get into a routine when you have multiple birds, as long as they have equal amounts of attention and playtime it should be fine. even the ones that hate each other all chirp and call to each other. x

I've got five birds, and stick to a routine for "time out". Charlie, Abbey, and Sadie fly free in the morning. Levi is usually with me, as I can't trust him with the others. Fred is allowed out of cage in the afternoon, when the little guys are back in the cages. He often chooses to stay in his cage, unless I offer him my arm. He loves to be on me, but doesn't really like hanging out on his perches. Everyone is used to the routine, and seems happy!

With our 3 birdies things can get interesting occassionallly. Max is the smallest and doesn't really like the girls; which is fine since they don't really like him. Jade and Ruby get along better, but there are squabbles from time to time.

Diego is right, it isn't the the quantity of birds, it's the quality of everyone's lives. Our family is really busy right now, so I've been spending most of the time with the birdies. The 4 of us are getting a little tired of each other, and Jade really misses her time with my husband. But this is just a blip and things will be back to normal soon. If you feel that you can spend quality time with another parrot, I say do it. Each of our 3 birdies have such a different personality and their own unique place in our hearts, we can't imagine not having each of them.

Get the parrot you want...don't settle for what's available at the moment. Waiting for the perfect parrot is best for everyone.
