This tiel was found badly broken and mangled. medical treatment provided and a three month long search for an owner failed, he/she got along well enough with my tiel, so I decided to keep it.
He/she has a white dot on the membrane of her eye. Doesn't appear to have been from the injury. Anyone know if this is a possible birth defect or issue? Size hasn't changed, doesn't seem to bother her in the slightest. Just curious.
And does anyone know how to tell sex by her color mutation? I only know the normal cockatiels; males have the yellow face, females more grey.
I believe her color is a pearl?
:white1:

unfortunately the picture of the white dot on her eye is darn near impossible to photograph. This is the best I could get.

Poor baby, sounds like s/he has been through a lot lately. I'm glad s/he found a good home.

It would be very helpful if you could post photos.

Photos were in the second post. They didn't attach correctly to the first

She/ he is quite a talker to. S/he has already picked up every word my tiel knows so I had assumed male, but read somewhere about the males losing their pearl coloring when they get older?

Yes the male pearl will lose the pearl coloring starting around 5 months old to a year old. Girls can learn to sing and talk too, most don't but some do. I can't remember what that white dot is within their eye. I wanna say something to do with their liver but I'm not sure. I may have to look it up later.....

Thanks for looking that up Wendy, on my brief lunch break....lol

It sounds just like what that amazon has, and same with her, I do not think they are cataracts.
Cataracts are a foggy lens. This is on the outer membrane of the cornea.
Possibly a small ulcer?
She was on antibiotics for her compound fracture and lacerations, so that would have cleared up any bacterial infections in the process.
I didn't see anything on the other list about it's connections to liver troubles. Did I miss something?
Thanks!

Awww, she's beautiful! Thank you so much for helping her and giving her a loving home. It will be very rewarding watching her thrive under your care. And you have a talker, that's a nice bonus. My cockatiel is a real sweetheart but she isn't a talker.

Everyone seems to love the talkers....I just wish that mine would take a moment of silence for 5 mins
All the time it's screechy schreecy peeka-boo peeka-boo peeka-boo *wolf-whistle* Repeat lol
silly critters tiels are

I have one that never shuts up....He LOVES to sing when his head is inside the bell. I guess he likes to hear his songs bounce back from the bell. I raised him myself, he's been silly since he was a baby. He is over 2 years old now.

Haha That's so cute!
I raised my guy from a youngster to. He's quite a goofball. He was in a bad breeder/ hoarder situation where the parents were removed before this baby left the nest and he was left behind to die.
This was Kirby the day I got him. Took hours to soak all that poop off his poor toes
