Scarlet macaw, Cherry headed conure
Hello! I have just recently acquired a beautiful 6 year-old Scarlet Macaw. She is such a sweetheart and she has bonded to me quite well; literally to the point where she will follow me around the apartment. She constantly loves the attention and the love that I give to her.

My dilemma is that in a couple of months, my husband and I are planning to take a small one week vacation and I do not know what to do with Zera:confused:

My question is: What would be the best plan for her care while we are gone? I originally thought to keep her where she is and to have my landlord who has a (Mon-Sat 9-5) store below our apartment come up and feed her on a daily basis. My concern is that she will not be getting all of the attention that she is currently getting and I am worried that will stress her out. Her previous owner ( who had her since birth) said she should be fine, but I figured I would ask others what they do.........

I love my girl more than anything and would hate to cause her undue stress...

Please help...

Thank you :)

Hi there and welcome to the forum. :)

Since your vacation is still a few months away, do you possibly have any friends that could come over regularly and get to know your Scarlet? The friend may not be able to "bond" with your bird like you have, but IMO it would be nice if said friend would care for her while you are away. By "caring for your bird", I mean more than just dropping in once a day to feed and water. She/he could sit with her, talk to her, etc, so she doesn't feel alone.

I had a live in pet sitter stay at our house when we went away for a few days last year, and everything went well. The person wasn't allowed to take out any of my birds for safety reasons, but to me that was the best possible choice. :)
