I read somewhere that ekkies moult twice a year, spring and fall. Is this right? It's Autumn now where I am from and I have just in the past week noticed Audrey's feathers thinning out on her head, almost looks like tiny patches missing. I can't see any pin feathers in those areas but there are some around her beak. It has me worried, is it normal? This would be my first "moult" with her IF it is a moult lol.
Her diet and behaviour is all regular

KC, ekkies replace small body, including the head feathers all year round. After the 12 month moult they will usually replace the tail & flight feathers about twice a year.

And yes they look a bit mottley when they start losing the head & face feathers. I have a 5 month old hen doing the same. She looks so scruffy.

I have never had a problem with behavior when mine go through their moult. The only thing would be a little discomfort if handling & i accidently bumped a pin feather. Just treat her as you normally would do.

Ah thank you Pedro haha! :) Glad to know its normal. Audrey's behaviour has been totally normal as well :)

They also sometimes go through a Mojo molt in which they lose a lot of their facial or head feathers all at once. They literally look bald. It took my female almost 7 months to finish hers.

Awwww haha :( Audrey is losing mostly head feathers, when I was giving her a pat yesterday a few of them were falling out. I feel bad for her lol!
