I have a request for those of you have cages from Expandable Habitats: would you mind posting close-up photos of how the main door is hinged, as well as the locking mechanism?

I am going to be welding up a stainless steel cage panel for a custom cage project, and I'm looking for ideas on how to hinge the door. I like the simplicity of the EH cages, but I haven't been able to find any detailed pictures of how the doors are handled.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer in this regard.

I can only recall a few members who do happen to have the EH cages, and I'm not 100% positive they're regularly active (haven't been terribly active myself lately )... but I will bump this in hopes that someone who has one can respond.

Just bumping the thread so that someone else may be able to answer. Good luck.:)

Google images "expandable habitat cages", the third image from the left on the first row shows a pretty solid image of one of the feeding doors which they do the same way as the normal doors.

It looks like they are just using small SS loops around the first bar of the "door" section, Larger the door, the higher number of loops to hold everything in place straight. Just have to be able to bend the stainless steel loops around the first bar of the door while holding it in place.

personally, I would use a good pair of pliers and a screwdriver that is slightly larger than the steel gauge you are using. Pre-bend the loops by using the pliers to squeeze the bar around the screw-driver, while still leaving the loop open enough for the bars of the door to fit in. This will keep you from kinking the loops making it difficult for the doors to turn. THen just put the doors in place, and squeeze the tips of the loops again to fully close them off.
