Cockatiels - Oz & Kaila
So, Oz is a whiteface pearl and he's always been rather light colored but now with his molt, he been growing dark grey feathers. I know he's very likely to lose his pearls, but I didn't think his general color could change that much. He's growing some on his wings and a few around his neck and upper back but I couldn't get him to hold still long enough to take good pics of the whole feathers. Here's what I got:

The ones on his neck are as dark as these. Some others have darkened too but not to that point. I managed to get one of before the molt that's pretty similar

Are his feathers going to all turn darker or his he gonna be an odd little mix of light grey, dark grey and white?

well, he's definitely losing the pearls, so you're getting solid grey feathers instead of pearled ones, but when new feathers molt in, they often come in darker than the old worn feathers. they'll turn all dark when they all molt in. by the time he molts next time, the same thing will happen when these feathers wear down :)

happens to my male pearl as well. happens to my female, but its harder to see her darker feathers because she is a pearl and the pearls mask the darker look more.

He's going from baby feathering to adult feathering. As an adult, he should look near identical to a whiteface male.

Well he's gonna be very pretty! How many molts should it take until he's got all of his adult colors (no pearls left)? I'm gonna try to take pics every step of the way =)

It could be 1-6 years in age. Some males will keep ghost pearls, too.

Whiteface males are indeed gorgeous!!!!!! I particularly love whiteface pearls!!!!!! :D

It's how pearl cockatiels grow, they molt and grow darker feathers. It's how life goes :D and also they can have the ghost pearls. Also my opinion your 'tiel looks more beautiful to me than before :)
