Hi. I'm new to the site and had a question regarding my lovebird babies that are 2 days old. 2 of my lovebirds mated and now I have babies. This wasn't a planned breeding. They don't share the same cage, but got a little playful during playtime. I was wondering if the babies could still be tame if I let the parents care for them and just interacted with them when they are a couple weeks older? Also, a local breeder offered to take them to hand feed @ 2 weeks and then give one back to me when they are weaned. I've never hand fed a baby, so that option is out. I am completely uncomfortable doing something I haven't been properly trained to do and I want what's best for the babies and parents. Thoughts?

yes they will still be tame. just handle them daily after they are a week old and the parents can take care of them, its great that you arent just gonna dive into handfeeding as its very dangerous and time consuming I say just handle them and play with them but let the parents do the feeding :) good luck!

You can let the parents wean them and handle them to keep them tamed. When I used to raise Lovebirds is some times while one batch is weaning she will start her second brood pretty quickly. That would be something for you to watch for if you don't intend on having anymore babies.

Thank you both for your answers. Kinda nerve racking when this wasn't a planned situation and not knowing what to do. So far the babies are doing great and so is the Mango (their Mom).

I'm waiting for her to eat, so I can get a quick pic. She is NOT friendly right now.
