green cheek conure "frick" aka Elvis!
hi everyone. So my mom is visiting and is interested in either a quaker or sun conure. she wants to ask the group for your input on the question of "how aggressive are Quakers".

I have my own experience with the babies at the store, but could real quaker owners chime in?
(my experience has been nothing but fantastic regarding quakers)
thanks.
she's having a fun time playing with Frick while she's in town

She needs to study on both breeds and see what works with her living conditions. Both birds are great , and both have some draw backs. Go check out as many birds and she can and see what clicks.

The best answer I can offer on Quaker aggressiveness is that it depends on the individual parrot. They do have the reputation for being cage aggressive, but many, like my QP Ralph, are not. Ralph is possessive of his food dish, but otherwise doesn't care what I touch inside his cage. Ralph isn't aggressive in other situations either.

I have both! My Quaker was territorial until I got him a separate nighttime cage. There are ways to deal with the nippiness if the issue arises. Have your mom read up on both species. My sun conure is a cuddle bug and a clown, but she is extremely loud. Even her mild cat calls would be a bit too loud if you lived in an apartment. She should ask herself what she can realistically deal with. Is noise a deal breaker? Is aggression? If so maybe neither is right and she should try a smaller conure or another species. All issue aside, I wouldn't trade my 2 brats for anything!

Chuckles my Male blue quaker is an aggro little guy. loves me and isnt aggressive towards me, but wants to fight everyone else!!

when i say everyone else i mean my other parrots. He's not scared of the sulphur crested toos, isnt worried about the eckie, is always trying to fight with the alexandrine and chases my gold capped conure. Only bird he's scared of is the red tail black Too. he goes for my dogs and has even wanted to go my cats

prob is he sometimes bites off more than he can chew - he recently had his elg broken by someone (suspicion is it was the eckie). everyone was in their cgae except chuckles and he has a habit of annoying other birds who are in their cage and i think he must have gotten chomped. He's doing ok, the leg has healed and he's starting to put weight onto it again but there's nerve damage
