I currently have 2 GCC and an Amazon. In the past I had 1 female GCC one female and one male Sun. My 3 fids now were "sexed" (not by DNA) by a breeder as females. I have known this breeder for a long time and have never seen him make a mistake in sexing, although I am fully aware of how very difficult and unreliable the method is. All of my past fids and current fids have been pretty mellow birds with laid back personalities until the arrival of the evil one....JoJoByrd, the turquoise GCC.

JoJo is so different from any other bird I have had. Everything about this bird is BIG and LOUD. Not actual sound so much, but in personality. Everything about JoJo is just so exaggerated. Body language, head movements, attitude, daring, total lack of fear. If there is trouble to be found, leave it to JoJo to find it. If a new person enters the house, it is known that JoJo will be literally in their hair within minutes. Right now, she (or he or it) is hanging by a foot from the top railing of my sliding glass door swinging her body just as hard as she can. I am going to get everybody DNA sexed, but I would place hard money on JoJo testing out as male! This super outgoing personality is fun and entertaining, but also totally exhausting. JoJo loves to ride around on me but has the annoying habit of pinching my skin if she/he feel ignored or is not being talked to. I am curious as to the experience of others. Is it common for female GCC to be this "out there"?

I am not "complaining" at all, just kind of observing and taking notes. The two GCC are housed together and their "taming" has been of total free will and they are both more interested in making friends with humans than each other. I will be quite interested in the results of a DNA.

Tango is my “go-hard” GCC and I would have sworn she was a boy.....called her a boy for the first 2 or more years until I had DNA done. Tango is a girl and I was absolutely shocked. She struts, flies like a green torpedo, accepts love only on her terms, is into everything, beats the snot out of her toys, is stubborn....she’s not really “outgoing” with people but is absolutely entertaining. She rides around on my shoulder or the top of my head and delivers little pinches to my neck if I’m not talking to her. Scratching allowed ONLY if requested .

I don't think you can tell their gender by their behavior. They are individuals, just like humans. My Petey is a DNA confirmed female, and Remi is a DNA confirmed male. Petey is more vocal than Remi, she also talks more, and loves to fly and be independent. Remi is less outgoing and generally more to himself. Petey also struts, lol.

My Ta-dah is DNA girl. She is totally in control and runs a tight ship. She is fearless, demanding and quick to scold. Right now thou we are doing are sneaky cuddles as the rest of the birds sleep. She decided this is our time and are 8 or 830 every night she starts banging on the cage to come out.

You have far more bird—and conure—experience than me. My GCC is a dna tested female. She used to love my wife and I equally. But after my wife had to leave the state for three months for medical reasons, and upon my wife’s return, our GCC conure has treated my wife with absolute meanness. Not me: just my wife.

My wife used to be the one who pampered her too. She got her out of her cage in the morning, put her on the bathroom sink, where our conure takes her morning poop (easy to wipe up), and then my wife feeds her and pampers her. Now, our conure chirps in the morning for someone to lift up the blankets and when my wife puts her hands in the cage to get her... OUCH! Our conure will lean out to bite my wife. I told my wife to lift the covers off the cage and provide light, but don’t get her out of her cage. The bird stays in the cage until I get her. And if she bites my wife, I get the bird and put her in her cage for 10 minutes. This biting happens periodically during the day too. Not consistently, just intermittently.

Our conure used to adore my wife and hardly ever bit her. I don’t know what’s up, other than I think our conure feels betrayed by my wife for leaving for so long. She used to do that to me when I worked in the oilfield for weeks at a time and then when I came home for my two weeks of rest and relaxation I was greeted by bites and a cold wing (analogous to the cold shoulder). I was chopped liver for a week, then she started coming back over to me and it was daddy time again. This thing with my wife seems like the same thing. This seems like attachment issues.

Now, that might seem like a crazy suggestion. But allow me to share another anecdote. We ordinarily take our conure wherever we go, in stores, to doctor appointments, to family gatherings. She is happiest when she is fully “included” in all that we do. There are some places that will not allow us to bring a bird along so when we have to cage her for a little while, our conure displays an attitude when we come to get her out of her cage. Knowing the difference between where to poop and where not to poop, she will poop where she is not supposed to poop. She will even poop on us. She never poops on me unless it follows this circumstance. If she is on me and has to poop, she will tell me she has to poop with a special poop chirp and I will hold her out and say “poo poo” and squirt! Other times she will fly to the ground rather than poop on me. But when she is mad at me, she poops on us or on our blankets.

She is stubborn! She also struts. She is psychopathically fearless too ... until she hears a sudden noise, in which case she transforms into a chicken bird and flies to the ground.

Just sharing my GCC’s quirks so you can decide what is normal and what isn’t with respect to JoJo.

On another subject, I watched a documentary about Teflon that turned my stomach. It is called The Devil We Know. It was on netflix, not sure if it is still on netflix. After watching that, I learned that another state in the U.S, Minnesota, battled with teflon manufactures over the environmental impact to the community, this time the citizens were represented by attorney general Lori Swanson. Since that settlement, there has been even more litigation as corporations change names and make minor changes to the molecular structure teflon. 3M and Dupont are going to hell for sure!

I was just thinking the same thing! Sounds a lot like my sunny too. [emoji1787] Especially with being in new people's hair. I swear she knows exactly how to make new-to-bird people as uncomfortable as possible and still somehow charm the crap out of them. Its beyond me.

its 12 bucks, less than pet food, takes about a week. Id recommend everyone do this esp. if more than one bird.

I don't work for them or get a kickback it was just good service.
