Hi,
I have a customer who wants to house two CAGs in the same cage (40"x30" dome). Do you advise or not? We don't know the sexes but would test if we needed to so that we could answer this.

- will they lose their pet potential if they live together?
- could they get territorial and fight?

I look forward to hearing back from CAG owners.

Firstly, that sounds like a small cage for 2 CAGs. Other than the birds, you need room for food & water cups, toys, perches, etc. Any birds living together can have territorial issues. I have 2 little rescue budgies that have always lived together in a tiny cage, and now live in a big cage together, with plenty of treats & toys, etc. but still need their own food cups, or they fight like crazy. Also, birds kept together will often bond with each other and not want to be friendly pets, like aforementioned budgies. It all depends on how much time & work their guardian puts into them. Plus, the individual birds personalities may not mix well. My greys have always liked their own space. They have always been friendly to each other, and other birds, but, want their own homes. I have many birds, of different sizes & species, but, almost everyone has their own home to go to when they want to be alone or sleep.

One would have to go slow with this and evaluate the two birds. Need to make sure they will not injure eachother. The only way to do that is to have them together but not in the same cage for a while. My Rosie likes her cage and does not want anyone or any other bird inside of it. She is very possessive.

Just to clarify, when you say dome, do you mean it's a rectangular cage with a domed top or a completely round cage?

Thanks for the replies so far. Yes, IcyWolf I mean a dometop cage, HQ 40"x30". My sense is indiv. cages is best with lots of joint playtime. I don' know if they are sibs or what their sex is yet. The customer was interested in putting them together for companionship but at the moment, I am not advising that way. Any other thoughts?
