Probiotic After Antibiotic?

5 YO Red Sided Eclectus
Emmett has finished his 2 week course of antibiotics (he had a high bacterial count) and I think he would benefit from a probiotic. His poop is still very watery. He's not talking yet, but I can tell he's definitely feeling better b/c he is always leaving his perch looking to get into something! He's eating and drinking well too. I think the rest of the puzzle will come together once his system returns to normal.

Can I get a probiotic from my local health food store or do I need to get something special online or from my vet? What dose/method is recommended for an Eclectus. Anyone know?

I use a Vetafarm Probotic it's in powdered form. I don't know if its exported from Aust.

I give probotics to my eclectus everyday. I sprinkle it onto their fruit & veg, or in the water. If a bird is unwell I give a mega dose instead of grabbing the antibiotics.

It really is great stuff.

Thanks, Greycloud & Pedro!
Pedro, I came across a previous post where you mentioned Vetafarm Probotic. I haven't found it yet. I'll try to find the Bene-Bac in the meantime. Either one should be good for him. Looking forward to having my ole' chatty Emmett back. I never thought I'd miss him screaming for me! LOL!

Comparing the Bene-Bac Powder (online PetSmart) and the Vetafarm Probotic, it appears the Vetafarm has more live organisms (9 to Bene-Bac's 5). That said, I can only find the Vetafarm online from a store in Nevada so far -- and it's in liquid form. I wonder if it's better to go with the Bene-Bac b/c it's more concentrated?

I use the Bene-bac also and it works great! Always a good idea after antibiotics!!

Fiwi ask your Vet what is recommended. They may even have some in stock.

I'm giving up on my vet :-( When I asked about a probotic, he said " do they make the specifically for birds?'' I wish I had a true avian vet where I live. I don't think he gets it at all.
