Prissy is sneezing today and seems tired. I live in an area that is being affected by the Yosemite fire's smoke. I have been running the air and several air purifiers 24/7. I am not sure if she has a cold or is sick from the smoke. The smoke is not bad in my house however, there is a layer of debris all over everything. I keep wiping and moping etc but it keeps coming back. The only reason I am aware of this though is because my feet keep getting dirty. Otherwise all seems fine. I don't really think this is the problem. I am new to all this and don't know anything about bird illness. Is sneezing normal?

Lukah sneezes a lot! Sometimes 10 plus times throughout the day. All the air purifiers might be making the air dry. Do you have a humidifier? Does she have any other symptoms?

No I don't have a humidifier going and we live in the desert. However, she hasn't had problems until today. Her sneezes are wet and the fluid is clear. I don't have a humidifier but I do have a vaporizer, would that work?

To give you a peace of mind, best to have her checked out by a vet as we can only speculate what's going on here. :)

She might sneeze to clear her nasal passages, although it isn't the sneezing but the "fluid" that bothers me. I would suggest daily showers, bring her in with you....cool showers though.....and a trip to the vet.

Also, what are you moping with? Are you sure it is bird safe?

I use a steamer no chemicals just water. I have been cleaning her cage with alcohol. I rinse it and dry it before she goes back in the cage. I am looking for an avian vet online now. The one I took her to when I brought her home turned out to not be an avian vet even though I specifically asked before making the appointment :(

Why don't you try white vinegar instead of alcohol? Alcohol can be pretty strong....

Thanks! I will do that. I am learning...

Chelle, I haven't noticed any extra sneezing from my flock, however, some of them are not eating nearly as much as they should. Also running an air purifier, albeit a cheap one. Keeping a close eye on them, and I think the smoke is bothering my bourke parakeet that has sinus problems.

Oh, and I also spoke with the gal with the Hyacinth Preservation Society in Carson, and she prefers one of the avian vets in Reno. Its a bit of a drive, but apparently worth it compared to what's available in Carson...

I still prefer my a-vet in Incline, but I'll be checking out another a-vet in Reno.

August 22nd, I took a photo in the evening, around 4 pm, using my phone. My sister added one possibly from Google maps? I just know the bottom image is mine and shows just how bad we've been getting it. (I've got other photos as well, but haven't put them on my computer yet)

I will be making the drive! I really didn't like the care she got in Carson. I plan to call first thing Tuesday morning and make her an appointment! I am hoping to get her in to see Dr. Cocanour in Reno. Unless you have another suggestion! Hopefully she will be ok until then...

She is still sneezing. I don't even know what to do for her. She is still eating and playing some but I have noticed she is sleeping more than normal. I do have a bigger air purifier on the way hopefully it will be here Tuesday as well.

Thanks for all of your help I appreciate it greatly!!!

So sorry what you guys are going through out west!! Hope all goes well for all your fids...and yourselves (can't be good breathing that stuff for anyone)!

My recommendation is Dr Hess (she's in Incline), but I've never been to Dr Cocanour! I like that his hospital accepts walk ins!

With any luck, I've had *most* of my previous records e-mailed over to his hospital (except for one bird that has passed away and I don't know why *his* records are missing - and records made after those records were transferred over to another hospital)... so I do plan on getting an appointment with Dr Cocanour as well, when I get the chance! (need to call them back and see if they got the records so that I can make an appointment - would rather him have the chance to look over them before I make the appointment - plus, I need a new place for emergencies/expensive cat food...)

My only thoughts with the sneezing is maybe try taking her into the bathroom and taking a hot shower? That just might help.

A humidifier might help:) I live in the desert as well and though obviously your circumstances are different with the fire and all, Lukah was sneezing a lot so I bought him the Safety First humidifier from walmart and set it up about 3 or 4 feet away from his cage. I turn it on every now and then but don't have it running full time (the house gets waaay too humid if I do that). He sneezes a lot less now
