The male eclectus at my local bird store are $900. The females are around $1000-$1100... not sure why they are more expensive. Maybe the looks?
Anyway, the cages are around $300-$500, however I got a cage, large tree stand, and multiple toys for $150 from craigslist.com. The cage is more than big enough for an eclectus... if you go to my thread you can see a picture of it. So craigslist is a great place to keep an eye out. I think i remember the cage size having to be around 30 inches wide by 40 inches tall (inside space, excluding stand). Of course, the bigger the better, but the bird should be outside of its cage all of the time on a perch or with you anyway.
I've seen 700-1700 just depending on location. I personally paid 900, but got my male very young and weaned him myself.
For a cage I paid 130.00 from a bird fair, huge cage, great quality. Perches, toys etc plus a few extra dishes put me out about 250.00 to start, and I spend between my two birds about 30-50 a month replacing toys.
Price is only part of it...obviously, if you can't afford it you can't get it. But remember that you also get what you pay for. If it looks like the deal is too good to be true, it probably is. There's a reason some breeder/private seller is $500 less than the going price...their birds are sickly, badly trained or have some very bad habits that you're going to have to train out or just learn to live with.
I got my pair for $900 and their cage at a whole seller for $230, about 75" tall, 40"x30" He wanted me to have the birds, for one I have the experience. Another he doesn't want them to go to someone that's breeding them. JoJo needed a little work so I worked with him and he's trained now. Gracie is plucked but they were breeding for him so now there's no nest box, hopefully her feathers would fill back in soon. It's coming back slowly.
