Hi,

I got this white cockatoo as a gift from someone. She is 17 years old. I learned cockatoos are very social birds and need lots of attentions and care. I don't have that much time for the bird so I want to sell it with the cage. How much do you think I should sell this for with the cage? I included some photos of the bird!!

Thank you,

I suggest rehoming not selling. Lots of people don't want an older bird (like 5 years or older, let alone a 17 year old without a clear backround). People want babies to train and because they believe babies are easier lol. Also no one wants to pay retail for an older bird or from some one who isn't a store or breeder. She was a gift and should be given as a gift or placed for rehoming. A good rehoming fee is $100 for a bird, because they are a pricier matter. It allows for a buyer to want to save up for it, but it's not expensive. Then you can charge extra for the cage- full price what ever, it doesn't matter- a cage is not a living thing.

Personally, I bought my goffin cockatoo at 2 years old and when it came time for her to find a new home because we didn't have time, we gave her away cage and all as a gift. There was a woman who sold me her hamster a few years back and she met our cockatoo a few times, and we ran into her and she would tell us how she loved birds and used to have a grey, so I ran into her again in town (I had only met her 4 or 5 times before) and I offered her Blossom and her cage for free if she wanted and now Blossom is so much happier and the woman is home all day. I couldn't have asked for more.

If you don't know some one to give her to as a gift, go out with her to the fleamarket or somewhere busy, there will be one or two people out of the million who stop to talk to you about her that will tell you they have parrots, or have had them.

If the bird was a gift to you, why would you want to make money on it? Re-home it to someone who knows what it takes to take care of the bird~

I'm with the previous commenters on this - you should re-home her, not sell. If the cage is one you purchased, then selling the cage would be reasonable...but if it was given to you along with the bird then you should really send it with her to her new home without charge.
