Prevue Empire Macaw Cage?

Hi I was wondering if the Prevue Empire Macaw Cage was a good sized cage for two macaws, in the cage about 9:00 pm to 8:00 or 9:00 am and still have some toys and things in it? Also what would a good two day camping trip cage be? All I can think of is a large dog carrier, would that work? Thanks a ton!

Probably for two mini macaws.....do we already have two macaws that are friends?

No, I don't have my macaws yet, and looking at the prices of these cages, I'm coming closer and closer to when I get them, either not to cage them at all, or build my own

Unless you are considering getting two macaws that have been caged together previously? That adage "birds of a feather flock together" is just that, a saying and does not guarantee your new birds will cohabitate harmoniously.....

I think you need to look at double macaw cages...the ones with a divider that can be removed.....that would let you keep them next to each other so they could get acquainted, then a couple or more months of chatting across the back fence, they might decide to become closer acquainted.....unless of course you're not interested in buying two macaws to start a breeding operation.....


You do realize that macaws aren't like dogs, they need to be together a while before producing viable eggs.....

I haven't decided if I would breed or get two of the same gender, because breeding sounds like a lot of work, and also it would be hard parting with that many animals, but I'm thinking I'll probably get either a established breeding pair, or two babies of the same gender so I can bottle feed.

Honestly, you probably want to get 2 cages side-by-side and only allow supervised interactions.

Edit: Parrots are NOT bottle fed and are VERY delicate as babies. They require a good deal of knowledge and experience to hand-rear. I've been around them my whole life and wouldn't be willing to take on the 24/7 round the clock care of baby parrots. And breeder birds aren't pets. They tend to be wild and not friendly. I would look at 2 same-gender birds or a male and female of reproduction-incompatible species (i.e. a mini macaw and an amazon or conure).

Thanks for the info kiwi bird, I'll probably get two of the same gender, curiously can you just keep them in a room that has things built for them? Or do you need a cable for their safety?

Some people have uncaged birds who live in bird rooms. Be aware though, it might as well be tiled wall-to-wall. They will rip up molding, carpet, windowsills and have even been known to chew on drywall and rip off wallpaper. They are small, but very destructive. Of course, one can train them and you obviously watch them while your home, but left to their own devices unsupervised, they can get into a whole lot of trouble. And I know a few members have trustworthy enough birds to allow them to be "free" all day, but they've had those birds many years. It reasonable to strive towards that, though I wouldn't necessarily expect that it'll happen right away...
