Our sweet macaw is prone to egg binding. It has already happened twice. Both times the egg got removed. My question is there anything one can do to help avoid this? Should I put her in the sunlight or leave her covered? I am confused because I am hearing mixed things. Some people say to leave her covered and some say she needs sunlight to absorb calcium. She is extremely loved and we have really up'd her nutrition a lot which is a good step. Anything suggestions?

Clearly, you're not hearing that on Parrot Forums!!!

Rule #1: Regular visits to your Certified Avian Vet.
Rule #2: Diet, Diet, Diet!
Rule #3: Adjust Diet based on regular Blood Test results, supplements if needed
Rule #4: Keep your Parrot Active: lots of walking around, climbing, playing, etc... (If your MAC is flighted, keep it up).

- I have become a strong believer in tuning your Parrot in with the natural Sunlight defined Day in your area. When the Sun rises in your area, so does your Parrot. When it sets, its bed time for your Parrot.
- If the Sun is Shining, get your MAC into that window that allows the Sun to be on your Parrot!!! Natural, Bright Sun Light is a very important part of their and our chemistry!

Enjoy!
