Member roxynoodle, Grey is very sick with a disease and has had a seizure or two. She'll be seeing a doctor again,....... tomorrow.
So, please pray for the both of them !

roxy is a great person and adores,.... her bird's !!!

Thanks, everyone. Merlin and I really appreciate it. Yes, she had another one yesterday, but at least I had the medicine for it and got it in her right away. Tomorrow she will get an X ray to see if this was caused by chewing on her cage. She is also on an oral med to try to prevent them. The second one was minor compared to the first.

Sorry to hear that Roxy. I have just met you a little bit ago, but as a pet owner myself I know having a sick pet is as bad as having a sick child. My prayers for you and your beloved Grey.:smile019:

She did also get a shot Tuesday to help tame down her hormones, which should also help to tame down her Bornavirus, which may also be the cause of the seizures. And she is back on Celebrex for another 5 weeks to help as well. The first round helped her, so those 2 things should help make a difference, too. She will probably have to be on Celebrex during her hormonal months every year.

She has done fine today though. She napped a little longer than usual, but she heard me get up at 6am (to prepare her meds), and she got up, too. So she missed out on 2 hours of sleep she normally gets.

No, I don't believe people can get it. It does occur naturally in some mammals, including horses. My vet is kind of spe******t in it and feels pretty strongly that it is passed from hen to egg, and that my other birds can't get it. So it's good Merlin was never a breeding bird, although if it weren't for that, she might have passed off her super sweet personality to babies. We often breed animals for color, but maybe personality is more important.

There isn't any cure at this time for Bornavirus, which was only really discovered in 2008. However, Celebrex can do a lot to help birds feel better. It helps her keep her poops smaller, and hopefully we can stop her from having anymore seizures. I just want her to have the best life she can. Some birds who have lost their vision from the Borna can regain their sight as well when treated with Celebrex, but Merlin won't as her cataracts are fully mature.

Awww, poor Ms. Merlin She's had a time of it, hasn't she? I hope she feels better soon and you're able to get some rest yourself! It can be hard on us too when they're sick, so take care of yourself as well
