potty training?

Nelson picked it up really quickly, with the larger birds i have found they dont actually want to go on you so as long as you provide opportunities for them to go elsewhere they will.

With Nelson i watch him in his cage and get him out after he had just gone or get him out and place him on his "poopy perch" and leave him there until he goes. When he went poop i praised him and only then did i pick him up again.
You have to learn to look for signs that they need to go and learn how long between each time they need to go. Then i would place him back on his designated T perch and say "go poop" or whatever and praise them when they do go. You cant expect them to hold on forever but they do learn to try and go when required and hold on a little until you give them the chance to go again =D

When Robin is on his cage, I say "poop" and provided he has to, he will do it. He knows then that I will pick him up and he'll get to spend time on me. If I wait too long and I don't take him back and give him a potty break, he will not hesitate to go on my clothes... I do TRY to avoid that if I could! If you say "poop" (or whatever word you prefer) every time you see him poop, in time he'll eventually learn what it means.

My grey was really good she was only fifteen weeks when I brought her home but she wouldn't poop on me she would fly to her stand and poop or if she couldn't see her stand she would fly to a side or something (not great but better than on me lol), then when she went I just started saying go poo poo and now when I know she gna go I put her on her stand and say poo poo and she does it then I pick her back up. Think it's just about repetition and watching them u know when they r gna go! Most greys like squat abit like leaning there tails down if that makes sense.
Good luck

You guys are so lucky. I guess my CAGs love me so much that they are happy to share their body fluids with me/on me. LOL

Kiwi becoming potty trained was kind of an "organic" thing. I did deliberately set out to do it, but I'm glad he is! When Kiwi first started exploring outside his "area" on the furniture/floor and especially his (now) favorite hangout spot- our WHITE couch, I would see him dropping his butt, grab him and rush him home before any accidents happened. More of a preventative measure than a training measure- I didn't know they could be potty trained. I think he was a little surprised/irritated every time he went to poop and I grabbed him, and probably took note it was only when he was on the furniture. Eventually I started noticing him doing a little dance and raising his foot like he wanted to step up before he started to do the butt drop. He figured out on his own he might as well voluntarily get picked up and moved before if he needed to go potty rather than be grabbed. Haven't had any accidents with him for at least 3 years.

My conure learned really quickly. Every time I saw her go I would say "go potty". Now she will go on command. Provided I take her back to her cage every so often, she won't poop on me. Now I've already started with my CAG I just got. Hopefully he picks it up quickly too.
