Well, I'm an Amazon Snob, but I know that there are differences and that is one of the many reasons that Parrot Forums has separate Forums for the different species to allow for that knowledge to be passes from member to member and further down the list of Forums you will find specialty Forums that cover diet and other issues. Please take the time to learn.

So, when to you expect this Grey to arrive!

Definitely good to start doing as much research as possible! African Greys are fantastic parrots. Incredibly intelligent, and known for being great at learning to exactly mimic noises.

Diet-wise, a high quality pellet base is a good place to start. Incorporating fresh fruits/veggies/grains to round it out and give them variety, plus whatever treats you end up using. You do want to steer clear of a seed heavy diet, though they are fine as treats.

As with most, a variety of toys is always a good idea. As is a variety of perches in different shapes/sizes and textures.

In my experience, they can often take a bit longer to warm up to new things than some species. And they aren't generally known for being an overly cuddly species, but every individual is different. Our CAG confetti for example goes out of her way to cuddle, though I'm often told that's the exception.

If you have any specific questions don't hesitate to ask. You found a great place to soak up others experiences! Coming here made all the difference for me when I first entered the world of Parront-hood, and it was with the impromptu adoption of an African grey as well!

If this grey is your first bird s/he will be a handful...
But you will absolutely enjoy the company...
in the CAG thread you will see birdman666's post on CAG101... it is bang on... that gives an exact picture of what they are...
Have fun with your bird... every day will be a different day

Can I correctly assume this Grey would be your first large bird?

Greys are magnificent but extremely intelligent and at times seemingly stubborn. The latter is more a human POV describing how intently they scrutinize their environment. They are worth every bit of effort!

The single best thread, already mentioned!

As a new owner, they are a handful and will consume a LOT of your time without being too clingy, but well worth the effort. I should have got a CAG MANY year ago!

Having an Amazon for about 30 years did not prepare me for a CAG.
Different behavior, totally different body language.
Their diet is not that different. Space and cage requirements are similar.

they have dust that the Amazons don't have much of.
In general I think they are more active than Amazons but that could be an individual thing, depends on the particular bird.
