possible adoption

I will hopefully be adopting a male red-sided eclectus. He is an angel with people but apparently has some serious aggression against other birds. He is only 2 years old. Do you think that this is something we could help him overcome with training and conditioning? If so how would you go about it? If not, what do you suppose could have caused this as I have read that this is rare in Eclectus.

It's not unusual for them to have issue with other birds but their own species. My pair don't mind other birds but they won't be on the same stand with them what so ever.

Congratulations! I only have one eclectus so I don't know if he'd get along with another bird but I do know when he goes in for grooming he's very cordial with other birds but of course he's not on a stand with them...so who knows...

Do you have other birds or have serious plans to get more birds? To me, this guy sounds like he is going to be most suited to a single-bird home. If you already have other birds he would see/potentially interact with or it is a definite goal for you to get more birds in the future, it is not fair to any of them to bring this guy home knowing his behavioral issues. That said, if you don't have any other birds and don't really have a desire to have multiple birds, theres nothing wrong with a happy, single parrot. We knew up front our bird was a "single bird" and he's very content just hanging out with humans. We have no particular desire to have more birds either, Kiwi is quite enough....personality... for this home

As for what caused it, he potentially had a traumatic experience with another bird at some point, but more likely, he just doesn't "view himself" as a bird, hasn't ever been around other birds in a particularly positive setting and simply relates better to people (as domestic parrots often do).
