I bought a colorful toy for Keen & she loves it, but she's chewing it & trying to eat the pieces. I'm guessing that's no good! It's a toy with popsicle type sticks, larger balls & a bell. I removed the toy immediately. What toys are good? I understa:greenyellow:nd my conure is going to ruin toys, I don't care about that, as long as she doesn't get hurt in the process.

What pieces of the toy is your conure trying to eat? Are you sure she is trying to eat them? What are the balls made out of?
My caiques chew off Popsicle sticks and keep the bits in their mouth until they chew them up into smaller pieces. It almost looks like they are eating them, but they really are just moving the small pieces around in their mouth and chewing them up.

I just assume Keen is trying to eat it. I guess I don't know for absolute certainty. It was the popsicle stick part.

Conures love to chew and shred wood, paper, etc. As long as the material is not toxic, it's perfectly fine. It is what they do in the wild.

In fact, we even bought a huge bag of popsicle sticks for this very purpose. We tied them to a string along with some colorful buttons to make toys. Our girl loves to shred them. We also give her the Yellow Pages book for this very purpose.

That's why parrots are destructive... They chew everything, and by comparison eat very little... They need to chew to keep their beak in top condition.

Bird toys are supposed to be shredded by our birds. It is a natural instinct for them.

I was worried because she was chewing it the same way she does her food. I have read a post on here about someone who had a conure who ate wood & died. It kinda freaked me out when I saw her holding & chewing the wood from her toy like she does her food.
