Poor baby

Ethan went to the vet this morning. He's been coughing and now it's getting worse and he's been wheezing. I was also concerned for his weight, he's a pretty hefty boy compared to the other two.

The vet looked him over, checked him temp (no fever), felt his sides and belly. She says the weight seems to be just that. Perhaps being deprived of food when he was tossed in a dumpster and nearly died makes him fear going hungry.

Her conclusion is that a) it's possible he has allergies and with everything budding out right now it's making it worse.
b) these are symptoms sometimes seen from heartworms.

Ugh. For today he got an antibiotic shot and a cortizone shot. If he doesn't appear better in a week I might have to consider having a bloodtest done. The problem with that she says, is that when cats get heartworms they only get a few and it makes it difficult to get a good test result.

I'm going to hope it's something related to allergies. Jasper isn't going to like it but I'm going to have to run the vaccum more often (he hates that machine).

The other two go in tomorrow for their wellness and boosters. Oliver is all ready hiding from me since the taxi came out.

Yeah especially since she said there's nothing that can be done if it is. I don't think she really thinks it is, she's thinking it's more an allergy thing. He doesn't have weight loss or vomiting that are also syptoms of heartworms. Until today I didn't even know that was a problem for cats.

I'm sorry he's not feeling well. That was an awful way for him to start his life. My beloved & much missed Jasper Dog was dumped next to a dumpster behind an abandoned store. He was my loving companion for 12 years.

Thank you for taking Ethan in & showing him a loving home. I worked at a Vet for 5 1/2 years & we never administered a heartworm test for a cat. My daughter's cat is having some difficulty with the pollen levels right now also. Since the winter in PA was not cold enough the pollen levels are off the charts. I hope Ethan feels better soon.

Yes it was, it makes me so angry someone could do such a thing. They weren't even sure he was going to live. When I got him I was just going to foster him until he was back to a healthy weight and all. He wound up bonding bigtime with one of my other cats and myself. I did try to find him a home but nothing worked out and finally realized he needed to just stay with me.

There's a picture of him in my album of the first night with me. Poor guy couldn't even walk he was so weak.

The other two made it through their exams with good grades. The vet said they both looked absolutely healthy and was in awe of Charlie's silky coat. Charlie did alot of crying and screaming there and back. Oliver threatened to do me bodily harm but once he was in the taxi he was chill. On the table he wasn't a very good boy and wanted to squirm. He didn't like one of his shots and growled and twisted away so she lost some of the vaccine onto the table.

Now they are home and none the worse for wear aside from a bit of emotional trauma.
