Well, yesterday morning I noticed Puck's poops were a little watery, but I thought it might have been from the fruit he was eating. Around 9pm, the poops started to smell sour. It's still smelling sour this morning. I'm going in late to work so I can bring in a sample.

He's acting perfectly normal though, so maybe he's not feeling sick, which I suppose is good.

*sigh*

He was JUST sick! He's not having any symptoms like last time, so I kind of think it's something else. Any ideas what could make the poops smell sour? He hasn't eaten anything out of the ordinary.

What kind of fruit has he been eating? If he's been eating a good bit of berries or citrus fruits that might make his poop running and sour smelling?

Was your bird on antibiotics? If so call the doc and he will prescribe something to help with the droppings. If not you could add a little apple cider vinegar to his water for a while.

IcyWolf - He had a little bit of apricot on Sunday, and some loquat, and some apples. Since Sunday he's had only apples as fruit, along with whatever I've been eating (salad, curried quinoa, etc.) It doesn't seem to be changing with what he's eating.

SpiritBird - He did do 2 round of antibiotics when he got sick. I was wondering if it could be yeast, but it doesn't smell particularly yeasty. It just smells sour. The ACV isn't a bad idea though. How much do you dilute it?

So far he is acting pretty normal. Normal energy levels, playful, snuggly, etc. Actually, he's been extra nice the last few days!

Well, the poop test came back normal. His poops smell normal now too. He's stil acting normal.

I feel like I should bring him in, but I don't have the money right now. Since he's acting fine and the poops are normal again, do you guys think it'd be safe to wait until after I get paid on the 20th, or should I try to work something out before then?

I'd say that if it's already back to normal, it was probably something he ate. Sugar's poop was off a couple of times yesterday (no smell though) and I started getting worried. But then after about 3 poops, she was normal again. I'd say that as long as it stays "normal", it can wait.

I didn't get a great look at very many of Puck's poops today, but I can't smell it now. I think there might still be some extra water, but the poops look solid like normal (they always did, there was just more clear liquid than I was used to, and maybe less white stuff).

I really have no idea what it could be. It started Sunday night, and ended sometime Tuesday night I think. He never acted sick. If anything, he's been nicer and a little clingier than he has been lately, but that might just be part of his normal mood swings. He didn't eat anything too out of the ordinary, although it did start the same day that he had a little bit of fruit from the neighbors. I kind of doubt that was it though.

Weird! I'll keep an eye on him.

They're smelly again, so I'm going to take him in. :-(

What did you find out when you took your bird in to the vet?
I recently had the same problem. Her fecal test was negative, but blood work shows slight anemia and an intestinal infection. They have put her on metronidizole drops for the next seven days to clear it up.

Yeah take her in if it happens again. I give two tablespoons per gallon of water for the ACV. Also, after antibiotics I give digestive conditioner drops to help build back up my birds good gut flora

Unfortunately this thread didn't mention that the bird in question passed away... But... the profile on top did...

RIP, Puck..
