Poop Off...

"Poop Off". It DOES a fabulous job of dissolving poop and dried on junk.

Anyone who uses this, I'm sure you couldn't help but notice how much "fragrance" this stuff has??!! :11: I have to have the window and door open, if not for the birds' sake, then mine!! :52:
It really is surprising that they made this bird product with such an overpowering smell. REMINDS ME WHY I STOPPED USING IT YEARS AGO!!

I also use a disinfectant, but I don't like to waste it, so for quick poop clean ups, is there a different brand of similar product you'd suggest that cuts poop as well as Poop Off?

I hate the smell! Yuck. I bought it once and never again. I like my Avitech. Perfectly safe, hardly any smell but if there is it's pleasant, and you spray it, let it sit, and bam! Cage is spotless. A full two-cage disinfecting takes me 20 minutes. I do use GSE and apple cider vinegar too, though. But dang does it ever work! I think the most exhausting thing of the entire process is trying to keep Shiko off my head and Avery away from him, haha

I use an apple cider vinegar and water mixture. I just mix 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water, and it works really well if you let it sit. Thanks for the review of Poop Off though; I''d been considering trying it out, but I guess I'll stick to my vinegar.

I am SUPER sensitive to smells and cannot use poop-off, it actually gags me. Like you it amazes me that they would make a product for birds and tell you it is safe to use right next to them and have it smell that strong! Vinegar and water for me as well, it works but I wish I could find something that works a little faster. When I do my deep cleaning I use a steamer hand held thing, blows the poop off like a charm but then there is all that water to mop up.

Let it dry and use a paint scraper on the "big chunks". Power hose will get the rest when you wash the cage. For spot cleaning, spray on vinegar water, wait 5 minutes for it to soften up and use a cheap towel to wipe it off (cheap towel because they are rougher texture and clean better). Maybe I'm crazy, but I find parrot poop to be the easiest thing in the world to clean, especially once it's dry!

Try a Mr. Clean magic eraser on your wall (or any surface the bird wouldn't be touching with their beak). Those things are seriously magic!

Actually the professional disinfectant I use Avinol (not sure the chemical name), really dissolves it fast too, so maybe I'll keep using it unless I find something else that cuts the poo QUICKLY. It has a bad smell but nothing that wafts strongly through the air, lingers, and chokes everyone like Poop Off. :52: I'll probably use this bottle up and not get anymore.

April, I do have an acrylic 'poo scraper'. I should start using it again for the big chunks. It doesn't work that great actually, not to mention they only came in 'clear' color and it's hard to find!

I use an ordinary paint scraper for dried poop. Then I have a steam cleaner to just zap it clean and disinfect with nothing more than ordinary hot water...

It's cheaper, easier, and does a better job without exposing them to anything potentially toxic. Scrape, steam, wipe, DONE!

Just be careful not to scrub *too* vigorously.. I remember somebody at my parents' house(me, my mom, idk, somebody! Lol) was scrubbing marker/crayon/whatever off the wall with one and it actually seemed to wear through the paint..

Of course, we weren't very gentle with it, I know bird poo isn't "heavy duty" cleaning, just figured I'd give a warning from my experience

My birds don't really poo on anything other than their stand/cage bottoms/sheet under the cage, so I don't have the struggle of cleaning it off of many surfaces, but for cleaning the grate at the bottom if I'm too lazy to scrape/scrub off any dried poo leaving it in the hot shower works wonders. The steam/rinse literally just melts it right off. Then let it dry and you're good! Clean birdie grate. And we're lucky enough to live right across the street from a self-service car wash so when the cages need a heavy cleaning we can just roll them across the street and power wash them. (Or throw them in the shower and steam them. We have to take the bathroom door off for that though.. LOL)

I'm not familiar with steam cleaners... Are they something that (after taking the birds out of the cage lol) it can be used indoors right there instead of having to move the cages?

Absolutely! Steam cleaners essentially vaporize the poop. I honestly don't know how I lived without mine... especially in the wintertime when you can't take stuff outside and hose it down so easy.

You scrape what you can with your scraper, to make for less scrubbing, then vaporize it, and just wipe it down. WAY WAY WAY EASIER AND LESS EXPENSIVE IN THE LONG RUN than poop off...

The handheld ones work, but I have so many large cages, that I would have to refill it for every cage, which becomes a pain. The rolling one has a much bigger tank, I can usually do my floors, and my cages on one tank.

I'm sold!! I think I'll have to get one one of these days. That would be good foe the dried on white stains (that stain black powder coated).
Meanwhile, I'll just use my sanitizer for daily use on the grates, since it's pretty quick. I'll just use up this bottle of P.O....
