Hi folks :)

Well I spent most of the day with Pookie and DJ..DJ and I went to brunch and I watched a football game with him. Brought Pookie a couple toys, which DJ was VERY appreciative for ;) He said Pookie will prolly love them.
So during the time I was there,I'd go into her room and talk real sweet and calm to her,she still did her big bird act but didn't shuffle back and forth.
When I first got there,I brought a corn muffin from Dunkin Donuts and asked DJ if I could give it to her,he said SURE..but if I value my fingers, don't put them in between the bars ( he had her door padlocked coz he said she's a great escape artist).
I held a piece in my fingers and talked real quietly to her and asked her if she'd like a bite..she ALMOST came to my fingers to take it,then backed off! So I was able to drop a nice sized piece in her food bowl.

An hour or so, I asked if he'd take her out and bring her into the living room to watch tv with us,and see how she would react to me. I was very surprised that he said "OK..but you have to sit quietly and talk softly"
OK...no problem!

Well..he went to get her and I heard him ask her to come out and watch football with him and "Uncle Jimmy" :D
He said she wasn't stepping up to his hand, then when she heard my voice,he said her hat went high, she stood like a statue and would NOT budge  Oh well...he tried at least.

So..I took a few pictures..don't get too upset on the conditions..:( Oh,and when I went in to say good-bye to her,I could see that she ate some of the corn muffin piece :D

Thanks Jim!

Both Pookie and DJ need to get out and even thou Pookie didn't fall in Love with you. You introduced a bit of difference into her life and DJ's also.

Your the greatest!

Well Jim, a journey of a thousand steps begins with the first one! Toos are notoriously cagey critters, but one day Pookie will probably warm to you. On her terms, of course!

I'm sure D.J. appreciated the visit and outing more than you know! For all the wear and tear, Pookie seems happy and looks good.

Talked with DJ earlier..he had Pookie out,and showed her the toy I gave her..he set it on the floor and she hopped from his arm to the floor and walked over to the toy. He said she stopped..looked at it..then picked it up,started to throw it around..yelled at it..threw it some more..he said she was having a ball with it lol..dj said Pookie says THANKS UNCLE JIMMY lol.

Aww! Sounds like Uncle Jimmy had a pretty nice visit there. Good job buddy =)

Maybe next time you can bring some newspapers and offer to help clean up a bit? Could be hard to approach without offending DJ but you probably know more or less what makes DJ tick and could help him out a bit. From one bird lover brother to another you know =)

Sounds like you have a good understanding of your friend's pace, physical and emotional. It's not easy to talk to mens about personal things. It's above my pay grade for sure. The cage looks awful to human eyes, but the 'too seems to love him and not care about that. Just, the banging on the cage is dreadful...does he have a cage cover, that might keep the bird quiet? If not I have a sewing machine.

DJ is lucky to have a caring friend. A lot of people are so busy with their own lives they forget people who closed off or aren't as social as they had once been. You've extended a hand to help lift him up but he needs to take it and want to get up. Sometimes it's knowing someone cares enough to try. I hope you'll continue to drop by and spend time with him.
If you're around Pookie enough maybe he'll warm up to you but I don't know tons about bird nature. I can only hope. Pookie looks healthy from your pics. Thank you for sticking with them. You're a good friend!!
