Hi, I have two small conures, Mitch and Mazey. I bought a pomegranate from the supermarket today, but am unsure about how to feed it to them. Can I give my conures the whole fruit cut into quarters or chunks, or is the outside of the fruit poisonous to them. :green2:

Just make sure you wash the outside thoroughly first, but you can give them a chunk, slice, or pick the seeds out for them. I bet they'd have a ton of fun with a chunk of it!

For me I remove the skin off of them before I feed but my partner whom is lazy and leave the skin on and cut them in chunks....

Thankyou so much for your reply, I scrubbed the outside, and I am going to try them with some chunks and see what happens. Is the outside of pomegranates actually poisonous? :green::green1:

Thankyou for your reply, I did remove the skin earlier and they loved it, I just wondered what they would do with a chunk of it. :green1::green:

Mine eat them like they normally do and they know not to eat the skin. It didn't phase the birds at all either way we serve them.

I pick up a mini tray of pomegranate seeds, all prepared and ready to go from our local health food store. So, MikeyTN, let's talk about lazy!

Don't tell anyone, but I may check that out. :green1::green:

I just pick a couple, wash them off and put them in treat dishes. Keeps the kids busy for hours.

cooper LOVES pomegranate. one of his favorites. i leave it in a chunk with the skin and everything for him to pick it out himself. turns it into a mini foraging toy. but beware, there will be pieces and juice EVERYWHERE hahahaha.
